Remington SPS?

I am wondering what the difference is between Remington Model 700 SPS and the other aside from the cosmetics. Are all model 700's the the same in terms of the mechanics, parts bedding triggers? I want to know if I can use parts form other 700's including stocks? Thanks any help would be great.

Mechanically the same action. Either long or short. Bedding of the SPS into the injection molded plastic stock is different than the aluminum bedding of the 700 vs/police types, though the actions should fit in either.

The new X-mark trigger has some different demensions, that might require some minor modification to an older stock.
 
I purchased a .300 win mag SPS DM a year ago and liked the way it shot. But I ran into too many problems for my likeing. The factory trigger was set at about 8lbs. So I had my "smith" take it down to 3.5 and it shot great. But after unloading it on day I closed the bolt and it went off (empty). After playing with it for the evening we had it going off every 4-5 cycles of the bolt by its self. So in went the Timny trigger. I then started hunting with it and noticed it wouldn't pick up the first round in the mag every time???? so a little modification got that fixed. Later that fall, I knock a nice 4 point Muley down and tried to take a second shot to finish him and it would not fire??? the recoil was knocking the safty half on. While fumbling around with that the Deer slid another couple hundred feet down the hill (extra work). So my experience was not a pleasant one. But it did shoot great for an in-expensive out of the box rifle.
 
before choosing my Savage 10FP I molested an SPS. Felt cheap and there were several rough/sharp edges. The trigger was a$$ and the price was similar to a stock Savage. Needless to say I got the Savage and have had zero problems, except that the rifle eats too much ammo. :)

I bought a 700 SPS Tactical 20" .308 as my first rifle and I am very happy with it. Shoots great right out of the box, it's smooth, well built and looks and feels great.

Worth every penny in my honest opinion.

I'm also looking at an SPS Varmint in .223. Has anyone attempted to re-bed one of these stocks? I was informed that the SPS's aren't free floated because the stocks are too flimsy since there is no bedding block. What kinda work am I looking at?

Bought 1 too

Bought a 700 sps for a project gun in .308 . decided to play with it first. It shot o.k. guess it depends on what your idea of good is. It shot 1.5 " out of the box but the tiny little pencil barrell warms up quick and point of impact starts to wander fast.
I only bought it for the action to build up a heavy barrelled 6.5 284.
I went on the internet and found the instructions to do the trigger. It took almost 10 min. to set it up to about 3.5 lbs it works perfect, no mis fires , no surprise fires, no feed prob. nothing, it works great.

I used a Rem700 SPS in 300WSM as the source for my action to build my 6.5-270 WSM.

The action was trued and accurized

I used a Gaillard bbl, and a fiberglass stock which was pillar bedded, I also added a Jewel trigger.

The end result was a great rifle, the only orig part was the action.
 
I bought a rem700 sps varmint in .243, and was shooting sub MOA with my first set of handloads.

I have re-stocked it, and have added a Badger Ordanance bolt knob. Looking forward to shooting it soon.
 
I have an SPS in 204 Ruger with over 3000 rounds down the urethra and with the right bullets, it is still a sub-MOA gun (just).

Bolts/actions are 100% remingtom 700, just not jewelled. Factory triggers are 100% crap until adjusted, barrels and stocks are cheap - just like intended.

They are a capable off-the-shelf gun as-is, but form the basis for an excellent frankenstein due to their compatibility with SOOO many accessories. There isn't a 700 action that aint crooked, and Remingtom proved that a shyttey cheap barrel can still shoot reasonably well in spite of having huge run-out and a host of other factory flaws. A blue-printed SPS with a custom barrel costs less than a 5R milspec and will shoot at least as good or better
