Found a new in box old stock from a couple if years ago so bought it

Am I crazy or is it better made than an express ?

Fit and finish seem better, action seems smoother, has a metal follower.

Is it me or are there actual manufacturing differences with this model ?

Depends on the era of manufactur for the Express, but one big improvement is the finish, that's for sure. The matte finish they have put on most Express guns in the last decade or more would rust just looking at it.

The final run of Express' had a good finish. Does your Tac-14 happen to have a tiny QR code etched on the side of the receiver?

Are you sure it is old stock? There was a shipment of new RemArms Tac-14s that made it into Canada in the last couple of weeks. Several dealers have now new Tac-14s in stock.

For example, a metal follower was not part of the "old" Tac-14s!

I bought a Tac-14 Marine a couple of years back and it came with the standard "plastic" follower.

I’ve never seen REMs come with metal followers from the factory.
Someone swapped out the plastic follower. Maybe a customer returned gun?
New shotguns now come with a QR code etched on the receiver.

You guys are right, it must be a new production , it has the small QR code on the receiver.

I still think its nicer than the other 870's I have owned

Can you post a photo of the follower? I’d like to see what it looks like. Maybe they did upgrade to a better follower. I just don’t see it as something REM would spend more money on in production as many people upgrade to their own preference anyway.

Thank you for the photo.
That’s a Dlask Arms High-viz follower. They manufacture and sell them for 20$.

So I was lied to, it's not new in box, it's been monkyed with

Looks like it has a Magpul forend and Dlask follower, saved you about $70. If it hasn't been shot, no harm, no foul. Also, don't jump to cry "I was lied to" given what has happened in gun stores lately, the staff probably aren't entirely sure what month it is, never mind if that boxed 'as new' shotgun is actually new, or if it was traded in on a new handgun.

Private sale but, no signs of being fired, and I installed a MagPul SGAstick on it and haven't shot it yet.
I'd still advertise as new never fired.

Maybe not. The seller might have replaced the follower and forgot about it. Maybe this run of 870s came with the Dlask follower if REM had purchase them from Dlask.
It’s an upgrade anyway. Though I do prefer the S&J, or Wilson followers myself.
Pretty easy to tell if the gun has been fired and cleaned.

Well, that's certainly odd, but not unprecedented around the gun community, people are strange when it comes to guns - I've seen some really old guns described as "excellent" not sure who's standard that guy was using though, given that one gun had been through ww1. Never fired is very precise, I'd rather see that than something more....negotiable such as 'new old stock' or 'mint'.
