Remington Tac clubs first online Match open to all shooters

Rohann, yes its the HS I'm trying to sell.

Unfortunaly it has not yet found a suitable home so in the mean time, the gun shoots one ragged hole @ 100m when I'm on my game. (Take that for what its worth, I'm not on my game that much)!

You guys look like your having so much fun I have to drag myself away from work and start getting some play time!

Ok well here they are:

Okay, I'll try and explain this one. 1st shot on Herman the German (or is that the fig. 11 targets?) was a tad to the left; my first truly cold-bore shot. The 2nd shot was at the man to the left of Herman, and the bullet ended up in nearly the same hole as the first shot. That was purely my fault; I overadjusted and overcompensated.
The 3rd shot, was at the man at the top left. That shot also went right because I pulled it. 4th shot was at the guy in the bottom right; pulled that one too. 5th shot was at the guy under Herman: I honestly don't know where the hell that one ended up, but I do know it was a terrible shot. At this point I remembered to start letting the barrel cool down between shots. 6th shot at the guy to the right of Herman; that one was total crap too. 7th shot was at the guy above Herman, that one hit the target next to it. 8th was at the target that the sixth shot hit, ended up barely hitting that one. 9th shot was at the guy at the far right, and the last shot was at the guy in the top-right.

I'm not sure if I pulled this one, or if the round drifted right because of overcompensation.

Using a shotgun or what eh? Needs much better ammo then Power Shock .....

Rohann, I started with an RCBS Rockchucker master reloading kit, I think it cost about $400. It got me reloading and shooting some damn good reloads. As I gained experience I upgraded components as $ and the wife would permit. The next best investment was Redding Match reloading dies. Now I'm hunting for a better scale.

You will not believe how much of a difference a well developed handload will make in your rifle. It will keep you popping "Herman" right between the eyes!

I'd like to get into reloading as quickly as possible. What decent, but fairly inexpensive reloader would you guys recommend? Would you recommend the RCBS Rockchucker? I honestly don't care if it takes me 10 seconds to load a round or 2 minutes.

Rob: Hey!!! Yeah I know it was crap, but I wasn't too eager to spend $40 on high-end Federal/Hornady ammo.

I know people are willing to help new people starting to reload. Usually if you supply your own stuff to make ammo they will show you how its done. I got well over 1200$ invested in gear to reload, 3 Presses, Case Cutter, Case Care Kits, Dies ETC...

Just never anytime to use them...

35$ for 100 308 SMK bullets, 20-30$ for 50 New Cases, 25$ for 1000 LG Rifle Primers and 32$ for a LB of Varget Powder that will last about 160 rounds.

Reloading is quite fun actually....

That works out to a fair amount...I thought reloading was supposed to make things a lot cheaper! I guess it doesn't really if you're loading match-grade ammo though.
Reloading does sound quite fun. I'm just looking for a cheap reloader for now.

Its not cheap to start reloading, but after a few hundred rounds made, it starts getting quite cheap...

Like once you stock pile up casing...Saves you a hundred or so dollars...

Really just need a max of 250 casing to play with...

1000 primers, all you gotta do is keep buying powder and bullets.

Get down to less then a dollar for match ammo.....Which is good considering the price of a 762x51 IVI ball is like a 1.40 a round.

Yeah that's not half bad. I know it'll be a hell of a lot better than the Federal crap I was shooting before.
What about a reloader? How much should I be spending on one?

If you get a Lee Single Stage Press, Dies, can make your own case block, powder depenser, hand priming tool, bullet puller, powder funnel, scale ( can get digi ones off ebay for good price ) For under 300$

Can find 308 Dies used here for good prices, same with used reloading gear.

I would be leary about buying the press or scale off Ebay. They are both precision items and you just don't know how they were previously handled.

With a used press you want to ensure there is no side to side play in the ram, otherwise it can effect your bullet run out.

The scale, well improper handling could have horrible results if charge weights are way off.

Any of the reputable press manufactures make solid single stage presses. RCBS, LEE, REDDING, etc.

As mentioned about, start up cost sucks but once your up and running and only purchasing bullets, primers, and powder, it does even out.

Rohann, get a Lee anniversay kit with Lee collet delux die set from Higginson. I think the whole thing is under $200. While you are ordering that, get some 155gr Amax bullets. You already have the brass. CCI BR2 primers and Varget powder.

Jamie, please send me the target and I will try and get out in the coming weeks.

I think I'd rather spend more and buy new than bid on something from eBay.
mysticplayer: Do you think the Federal brass will suffice? How many times can you usually re-use them?
Also, I never thought of Amax's; how do they usually shoot out of a 700? I was thinking of maybe trying something like that and then the 168 and 175 SMK's.

Rohann, brass life is really dependent on the pressures and chamber you run. I would guess a normal 308 load should get you at least 6 reloads before you need to bump the shoulder. From there, you will likely need to bump the shoulder every couple of reloads.

With proper care, a tight lock up and sane pressures, brass can last well over 50 reloads. You just need to anneal the necks every 4 to 6 reloads for max performance.

Unfortunately, most out of the box Rem actions are sloppy enough that brass swells too much leading to other issues that shorten case life. If I get 6 reloads, I am happy.

The 155gr 168gr 178gr Amax, as is with any quality 308 match bullet, shoots 1/4MOA IF the barrel, and your loading are in synch. Some barrels do not like certain brands or weights. Some factory barrels will not shoot as accurately as the bullets you feed them.

155 and 168gr Nosler competition are also very accurate. I prefer them over the MK because of cost.

The Lapuas and Bergers are also fantastic but pricey and not readily available. Contact Peter at Hirsch Prec. for Lapua bullets (support those who support us). If he doesn't have any, PM me.
