just received my camo mossberg 702 plinkster in the mail and i tested 10 different types of ammo and thunder bolts came out the winner.
are they good/bad burning,where can i buy them cheap,anything i should be worryed about?:pirate:

Hey, I just bought 500 thunderbolts from le baron, on special for $17.49. So far so good, 100 rounds in and they feed well into my 715t. They are dirty though, I can vouch for that

If they work in your gun and you can get them for a good price, buy them.

That being said, Remington Thunderbolts and SV target ammo both lead my S&W K-22 to the point of keyholing in about 75 rounds. I have never seen anything remotely like this with any other ammo.

Stick with what works. My Marlin eats Thunderbolts like candy. And pretty much everything else that goes on sale for cheap. 9 out of 10 skunks can't tell the difference.

Same with me in glock conversion kit after about 40 rounds the bullets tumble and hit the paper sideways aka keyhole

Yes, I've had the same problem with Remington Thunderbolts. Lead buildup in the barrel of my 10/22's after ~50-100 shots which results in the bullet tumbling as it leaves the barrel. Here's what I took out of my new 10/22TD after ~100 shots.

Some people have reported good luck with the Thunderbolts though and no leading problems. So maybe I just got a bad batch.

That looks just like what I drove out of the barrel of my K-22!

I use the Federal bulk packs for the most part and haven't had any problems. Blazer, AE and jacketed Remington bulk have all worked fine too.

In all 5 of my .22s, I might as well load my barrel with poop as run Thunderbolts, they just don't work for me.

Update on my experience with Thunderbolts. Thought I would try them in my Ruger 22/45 Target pistol as that barrel has seen many 1,000's of rounds through it. Same leading problem, with keyholing evident after ~50 rounds. The grouping opened up from 2" at 10 yards to about 8" after 50 rounds, and ~12" after 100 rounds. Was going to pack it in for the day, but decided I would finish off ~30 rounds of a Federal Bulk 525 Bulk pack so I wouldn't have to bring it home (hate bringing ammo back from the range). After running 1 mag through, the groupings went back down to 2" and I noticed some slivers of lead on the bench.

I cleaned the 22/45 when I got home, and no leading was apparent in the barrel at all. Thinking now I may alternate mags of Thunderbolts and Federal Bulk to use up the 6 bricks of Thunderbolt I have at the back of my ammo cabinet. Anyone have an experience like this? It's a heavy stainless bull barrel, would doing this result in damaging the barrel?
