There should be a Public Service Announcement stickied here to never buy this ammo. It was all I could find at my local Canadian Tire, so I picked up 1000 rounds today. I went to the range with my Ruger Mark 2 target pistol and after only 20 rounds I knew something was wrong. I packed up and went home to clean and inspect my gun.

I was not able to even pass a cleaning brush through the barrel! Only with some serious pounding from the muzzle end with a bore was I able to dislodge a huge piece of lead that had built up when firing this ammo. I couldn't believe my eyes! I took a couple pictures of the piece next to a Quarter for scale. I did some reading on the internet after this debacle, and it seems this is a well known and common problem with this ammo. Frankly I'm disgusted with Remington for continuing to make this garbage. It's potentially dangerous! I remember when Remington used to be a top name in the firearms industry, but now it seems they are a laughingstock. My dad used to be so proud of his Remington rifles. Now I would never buy anything from them. As it is, I'm out $80 from them. I sent these pictures and a letter relaying my disgust to Remington, not that it'll do anything. They should be held accountable for producing such garbage though.

Any chance your ammo was from lots S22BB1237 or S22BC1237? There is a recall on these lots. The recall is for improper crimp so I doubt it is responsible for your problem. I was looking at Thunderbolts today as an alternative to Yellowjackets due to price. Glad I didn't get them. Surprising you can actually get that much build up. Thanks for posting. If Remington responses with anything of interest please post.

That's unfortunate. I'll keep an eye out for that issue. To date, I have put well over 300 rounds of thunderbolt 22lr through my Issc MK22. I have not had one issue with it. I usually run a brush through the barrel before and after shooting, so I may not have noticed anything. I would have likely went through the entire box of 500 if it weren't for time constraints. I guess I'll stick to the Mini Mags when I can find them.

thunderbolt was junk 20yrs ago, from very high rate of miss fires, getting stuck in barrels, this lead thing, and who knows what else, so its really consistent stuff ;)

I have shot it on occasion if that's the only stuff I could find.

My only complaint was that it is really dirty ammo. If you are using it for plinking alright. If you want great accuracy don't buy.

Jackrabbit- that is a nasty video- almost like deja vu for me! heh

The only number I could find on it was 58420306

I was surprised to find this response in my inbox already this morning. I'm guessing it's a canned response- it was a "Do No Reply"

Lightbulb, glad I saw this thread. Been to the range with two new pistols and shot about 300 rounds of thunderbolts through em all together. My autoloader chewed them right up but I noticed key holing starting at the end of the day with my revolver but it was only a couple of rounds never really thought much about it just figured cheap ammo. I guess I know what ill be doing this afternoon, cleaning/inspecting two guns and them makin em dirty tommorow

My CZ 455 likes it and it shoots as tight as Federal Gold Medal at 50 yards.

That's my issue as well. Great ammo in a bolt action like my CZ452 Varmint and Mossberg 346B.

Very bad stuff in my Lakefield 64B semi. Leads up the throat like nobody's business.

Plugged both my 10/22 and a friends 10/22 with this crap. Both were new guns and at first thought it was a firearm issue. looking forward to hearing what Remmington's response is.
