Remington Ti or Sako A7 ????

Neither is available in a .260 so there lies your first probem. The first big difference is about $1,000. The Remington is a lot of money for an off-the-shelf rifle. Both are pretty solid rifles that are well suited to the rigors of sheep hunting. Fit, calibre choice and of course budget will ultimately decide but you wouldn't go wrong with either from my experience. Personally I'd save the $1k and invest in optics......
I know little about the Rem but I do own an A7 in .300 WSM stainless. For me, its the perfect sheep rifle. Light and accurate. Balances well and shoulders nicely. Lots of guys hunting the mountains seem to be going to them.
Problem is, they are hard to find. I have no idea where you might find a .260 but I know there is one for sale on the EE in 7/08.(and the WSM's)
I'm sure there's lots og guys on here that know the remmie well?

I too wanted a Ti 260 and there was a good deal on some of the original ones, (pre Alaskan) that some of us found out about here on CGN back in the spring, about 1200$. I put my name down on one but when they finally came in they had jumped to about 1500. I had got ahold of a new GreTan light weight firing pin to fix that stupid J-lock mess, so that was another 100$...still no optics. Also sounded like the Ti stock was soft and many got replaced with Macmillians (500-600$). Long story short, I didn't buy the Ti and sold the after market stuff I'd bought for it. Later in the summer I found a new T3, stainless/plastic in 6.5x55, 750$ new. Talley light weights and a nice ultralight Leupold (that I could now afford) and I've got a pretty light rifle. Never weight it, but around 6.8lb, maybe a bit under. Oh ya and the thing shoots like a house on fire, great trigger, the fire pin that comes with the gun actually works fine!! While not an A7, I can only imagin that the Sako would be every bit as good as the Tikka, and shold be better..I don't know how the hell it could shoot any better...With the new Ti's being around 2200$ there's not freakin' way I'd pay that for what you get. That's my .02$

Nope, not at all......bullets are too light for long-range shooting in the wind IMHO but lots of sheep have been killed with a .25-06 and lots of serious sheep hunters use them. If I was going to a long action cartridge, however, I'd look at something in the 7mm range. If I was looking at short actions, I'd consider one of the WSMs....if you buy the Sako that is.
A model 7 with the factory stock weights about 6.25 lbs. I don't know what the factory stock weights but a McMillan edge wieghs 20-22 oz which will definately be lighter than the factory stock. I would think you would be at least down to 6 lbs, mabe less- without a scope.
This is the way to go IMO, without having to spend a pile of cash for a titanium action.
Throw a 3-9 ultralight leupold on and you have an excellent, lightweight mountain rig.
Like Sheephunter says- if you want to make this a more well rounded gun go with a 7mm bullet. A 7mm-08!

my Rem 7 SS .308 with a factory laminate, GreTan pin and shroud, 30mm talley lows, and a leupold 2-7x33mm Euro-30 scope is 7lbs even. I imagine a hair over 6lbs for the same rig with an Edge stock. will I spend the extra $ for the edge? nope. 7lbs is just fine for me for a mountain/walking rifle and I love the warmth and feel of wood. although, I forsee a fixed 4x in 1" talleys in it's future, will probably shave 6oz off the rig. I like simple things you see...

I was just in the same boat as you a week ago. I looked at Remington Ti's, Sako Finnlight and A7's. Both where nice but for the money you spend on a Ti I found a much better solution for own needs. A Kimber 84M Montana in 7-08 toping the scales at 5lbs 2oz it was the lightest rifle in the caliber I wanted. So if I where you I would look at the Kimber 84M and the price for the rifle was very affordable vs a Remington Ti

Yes, I was in the same boat as well and narrowed it down to Ti, X-Bolt or A-7 and selected the A7. It's nice to have so many off-the-shelf options out there in what until very recently was a custom gun market.

Light rifles have recoil...period. Typically the 7mm08 is a light-recoil calibre but in a 5-pound gun it's likely not kid freindly. One other huge word of caution is that sharing rifles with kids is usually a very poor idea as they rarely fit them properly and regardless of recoil, they will learn a ton of bad habits very quickly from a poor fitting rifle. Throw a light-weight sheep rifle into the equation and you are looking for disaster. Not sure about your daughter's physical size or experience but something to consider..........if her LOP is different than yours, I wouldn't consider it.

The previous regular production Stainless M7's show up now and again in the EE, but they don't last long for some reason...
Just getting into the sheep hunting this year and need a lighter gun (have a rem ss 270 win with vari x III 4.5-14x50 = 10lbs) Not the greatest!
I'll keep my eyes open for a model 7 which is easier on the wallet but the kimber does look easier on my back...LOL
