Remington Wingmaster 870 2 3/4" Type of Ammo

You are all over the place here I will make it easy
NEVER NEVER NEVER FIRE A 3" SHELL IN A BARREL MARKED FOR 2 3/4" ONLY
A 870 RECEIVER CAN HANDLE BOTH SIZES SAFELY BUT MAY NOT BE SET UP TO EJECT BOTH SIZES.
There:slap:

What are you talking about? YOU clearly say it, not me. Im well aware that 3" shells should never be used in 2 3/4" chambers. YOU are the one who suggests it.

What disaster???? Yes if you put a 3" shell in a 2 3/4" barrel which hopefuilly no one will do but makes no difference in 870 M or V or Unmarked receivers other than the hull will not eject. Did you forget your own post??

You cannot even read . Just leave it go your inexperience with these 870's are only confusing the issue and stop sending me PM's. In august you were asking remington the same questions as the OP and now 6 months later you are an expert. I chucked my 1st shell into a new 870 in 1963 and have not stopped , in fact collect them owning more in 16ga alone that you probally have ever touched let alone modified. I'm done with your foolishness..

Whatever. It seems you have a bone to pick with me for some reason. My PMs were intended to be polite.

EDIT - To the OP, Im sorry for de-railing yout opic. I'll stay out of it for now on. Im obviously to inexperienced to say anything.

Gent's,

It is an open forum and for this i thank everyone that has had the time to share with me some knowledge.
Yes I will only go lower in shell size compared to what the barrel is marked for. I would hope that anyone that has a shotgun would know that. that being said, my second question was can a 3" shell barrel be put on the receiver and the answer is yes but it wont eject the shell. Fair enough. thank you all.
Yes the rifle is .30-03 and i was not aware that the cartridge is obsolete? do you mean i cannot buy rounds for this nice rifle? i really wanted to shoot this thing! would i have to find dies and make my own rounds is that possible for the .30-03 am I posing this question in the wrong forum.

PS..
guys have you guys heard the joke about argueing on the net?

Correction it might be the .30-30 i will have to have a closer look tonight. I only handled it for about 2 mins and then i put it in the safe.
as it turns out mine was built in 1967! very low serial number.
Just checked the remington website. great site by the way.

My apologies for the other conversations that took place however in the end you understand what was said regardless..
On the receiver somewhere in the production of these 870's all new remington guns even those clearly marked and ordered as 2 3/4" got a 3" receiver meaning 3" ejector and spring fitted. So there is still a chance pending on when it was made your 2 3/4" receiver may eject a 3" shell as is just like blasted sabres did.
A gun smith can take one quick look and tell you or if comfortable as others have try it with the 3" barrel.
Take care

NO need to apologize as long as everyone is cool with each other i am fine. I hate people argueing it's not my style dissagreeing is fine, but , argueing is another ball of wax.
Thank you all for the info. Any further info is greatly appreciated. anyone with a shorter 2 3/4" barrel that wants to sell would find a nice home with my Remmy.
Thank you all.
Plus always taking donations of parts. I will pick up at a location of your choice.

Hey bearkilr,
that is interesting?
i would like to know if you can show some pictures or if you can tell me if it is cycling fine?

It was my bird gun when I was much younger. It had a smooth 30" 2 3/4 bbl on it and I bought a factory 3" Remington 28" vented rib bbl and pretty much the only load it saw was Federal 3" ,1 7/8 lead #4. I really miss being allowed to use that ammo, I'm not a big fan of steel. :(
The gun always cycled and ejected fine.

Why are you not allowed to use that ammo?
i wonder if anyone in the GTA has some of those dummy 3" rounds that i can try and cycle through my rem870
