I currently have a Remington XCR II in 30-06, I like the rifle, its accurate but the only thing that slightly bothers me is the hinged floor plate. I know there is various options to convert but a part of me just wants to sell it and get something else a little better a sako, or kimber etc. Are any of the conversion kits actually legit? I thought about getting the magpul hunter and trigger guard but have not seen many reviews on them. HELP!

There is nothing wrong with the floor plate, it operates fine . I would just like a removable magazine

Might I ask why? I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but I'll give you my take on it. If you are using the rifle for varmints, or some similar use which requires rapid reloading, then yes, a detachable mag makes sense. If you fire a lot of shots in one sitting, detachable mags allow you to have several loaded and save the "hassle" of reloading. In a hunting rifle used for big game, IMHO, a detachable mag has more downsides than good points - there is always a slim chance of losing the mag, and, there is also a fairly real risk of the mag making noise if it rattles as you prepare to fire. Floorplates are also less bulky, and are easier to shoot prone (depending on detachable mag length, of course). What are the odds that the 3,4, or 5 rounds your present rifle holds won't be enough? But, all that stuff being said, if you like detachable mags, then, scratch the itch. You weon't be happy until you do.

I second papaclaude. Way less to go wrong with the floor plate then the mag. It sucks have to load one round at a time because the mag fell out of your pocket and you didn't notice, or worse yet, in the excitement you didn't seat it properly and it doesn't grab a round. I have both, I misplaced the mag for one rifle last spring which sucked because I really wanted to kill a bear with that gun. But when I did shot it with my floor plated rifle I hade no issues.

You both bring up great points, and things I didn't really think about. I think I'm just going to keep the rifle and upgrade the glass and trigger. And in the future by another rifle because why the hell not haha now to decide on witch trigger

I converted my BDL in 7mmrm to a kwik klip when I switched out the wood stock for a synthetic. I was never really happy with the clip , seemed that you really had to make an extra effort to 1. remember the clip and 2. make sure it was seated properly because sometimes it didn't. On the positive side somebody eventually stole the rifle but didn't get the clip so I'm hoping the dickhead is wandering around with a single shot BDL, he probably picked up a replacement but I can still hope he didn't.

Losing a magazine is always a possibility and the first thing to look at is the cost of a replacement.
Secondly, not every LGS stocks them for a SAKO.
I can happily say I have never lost a magazine but all my CF rifles are 700's and all are bottom drop floor plates.
Working in a gun store, every now and then someone slams a magazine home . . . crooked . . . and now the rifle is not operable. In one case a gunsmith had to remove the magazine.
Is it quicker to drop one round onto the platform to shoot or insert the loaded magazine or if the magazine is empty there is a little more fiddle time.
I always ask those buying a detachable mag rifle if they want to buy a second magazine now. Why is the question? Answer is for when you lose that one.
Now that the new owner has two magazines he is going to save even more time so he loads one with #1 load and the second with #2 load. In the dark and the heat of the moment the two are switched although only one person came back with that story.
If you really want a Detachable mag rifle then become very familiar with the magazine, the rifle and the smooth operation of both.
Historically . . . dad slipped the loaded magazine into the rifle and suddenly the game check loomed in front of them. While the son was trying to remove the magazine there was an explosion, smoke billowed from the vehicle as the transmission exploded.
Score one more in favor of keeping your model 700 with a floor plate.

For what it's worth, I guy I used to work with who lives in Sk is a "truck hunter:" basically cruises around and hopes to see something. As it's illegal to have a loaded firearm in a vehicle, he prefers a detachable box mag as he feels it's faster to load when leaving the vehicle then a hinged floorplate.
I converted my XCR compact tactical in .308 to dbm using the magpul kit, it works well. Not sure if it's available in long action though.

I use Timney triggers and i Really like the Timney Calvin Elite for paper punchers - So Smooth- Crisp- Light ! RJ

Magpul Mag conversion kits.....they make them for L/A in both magnum and non magnum calibers....

I own a XCR II in 300 wm, I purchased a Magpul Hunter 700 LA stock and the mag conversion kit ( magnum ).

If your happy with your current setup, then I would buy the conversion kit hands down.

In Ontario you cannot have a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, four wheelers included hence a removable magazine makes a lot sense as you don't have to fiddle with loading and unloading your firearm everytime you get on/off the trail.
