I would like to get some opinions from anyone who has had some hands on experience with both or either one of these rifles as I have come down to picking one or the other in the next few days. I know all about the rumors and facts surrounding the 5R and the looks of the XCR so I am looking for some performance data along with some opinions based on your actual experience with these rifles. If I don't get a chance to get back to you thank you for your input.

Well, I broke down yesterday and bought the Remington Milspec 5R. Now have to go out buy some glass to place on it and the rest of the hardware. Can't wait to take it out but that may have to wait a week or two as one of the younguns is getting married this week. Now that I didn't take the XCR tactical the wife says she might get it  , we see.

They are difficult to find, particularly now. I was only able to find two, one in Vanc. and the other in Denver and both are now gone and I have one:D. The XCR Tacticals were also difficult to find even back in the US. for those in canada, Reliable in Vanc. has two. Doesn't appear to be many of them available on the market yet, not sure of the numbers made, but it appears to be low.

It seems the 5R was only made in 2001 ? Pretty impressive reputation, you would think they'd try and capitalize on that and keep building em.

They periodically make the 5r as a limited run based on availability of barrels. It happens every few years and it is always the same thing, everybody wants one and nobody can find them and those importers that get them want at least a $500 premium over a 700P or Sendero.

5R Range Report

Well I went out and bought all the hardware for the new rifle a couple of weeks ago. 6-24X50 Bushnell Mildot c/w tactical knobs, BO USMC rings, BO canted rail, Harris pivot 9-13 bipod, flip up lens caps and Eagle cheek pad.

Took it to the range the next weekend and spent the day there. First I cleaned the bore in the event that there were any debris in there. Using Fed GM 168s the rifle placed a 3/4" right out of the box:sniper:. Subsequent groups average 3/8" - 5/8" consistantly. I was more than impressed:dancingbanana:. Hitting clays consistantly out to 400. Others at the range were impressed and wanted to try it out, but I was not ready to do so yet. Had a friend try it out during the week and he fell in love with it. Next task is to take it out and try it out to 1000. It has a real thin recoil pad but it does not seem to be an issue due to the rifle's weight. A paint job may be in the works.

I know:needPics:I will post some pics.
