I am thinking of picking up a brick of Remington Yellow Jackets to go on the Gopher shoot in June.

I read through the thread on Thunderbolts, (posted there too) and am wondering if people are having the same problems with the Yellow Jackets.

An accuracy report is not what I am looking for. Just if the FTF's are about the same with them?

I've used Yellow Jackets before, but they didn't always feed well in my 10/22. On the other hand, the always fed fine in a buddy's BLR. So, their reliability might depend on your own rifle. Why not just pick up a box or two to test before buying an entire brick? If they shoot out of your rifle, they do nice work on gophers.

They fed just fine in it (a 10/22 as well) 10 or so years ago. What I am wondering is.

Does Remington's apparent problem with quality control extend to the Yellow Jackets too?

It's going to be these or some CCI Mini Mags. Which I know feed and go bang every time in my gun, But cost a bit more, and I kinda need to save what I can right now...

I can't comment on Remington's CC for Yellow Jackets, but I've been putting a lot of Remington 9mm through my pistol lately and the ammo always goes bang.

Buy 1 box and try 'em before you buy a brick. Using any hyper-velocity .22(like any other .22) requires trying a box of each to find the one or two your rifle will shoot best and cycle the action of a semi-auto. My .22 likes Yellow Jackets. Shoots 'em reasonably well too. Mind you, it's not particualrly accurate with any ammo.
Yellow Jackets kill ground hogs with no fuss. A ground hog is much bigger than a gopher. So if they shoot well out of your rifle, your all set.

They made a mess of the few pesky squirrel I shot. Out of a 10\22 even. I don't know why you aren't concerned about accuracy though, they print 5" at 50m out of a friends 10\22.

I really like them and a lot of my guns like them as well but they're not made very well. I get at least 7-8% FTF out of every box. Once I popped the bullet off just to see how powerful the primer actually is. It was just awful. I was surprised it could actually light one off. Try it sometime. You will be amazed. I tried a few other brands and their primers took off with a blast. A hugh difference.

Give them a try and see how you like them. I just bought a case of them. They used to be $22 a brick then last month $32 a brick and yesterday I saw them for $42 a brick. Its getting rather depressing.

Yellow Jackets

I have always found them to work great in my rifles. Make a great TWACK noise when they hit a gopher. I went out and bought 50lbs worth at the Edmonton gun show ( thanks BigBully) Works out to over 7500 along with the 5000 I bought at Milarms last summer. Gopher time is comming.

I'll tell you what I know. I never had a feeding issue with YJ in an autoloader. I also never had QC issues either, but I never shot many of them. You don't want an accuracy report, but your going to get one. They suck. At 100 yards, they spray all around my targets. I used to be the biggest fan in the world for Remingtons Cyclone round, but one day I bought several bricks that were crap. Mis-fires, reduced power, excessive power etc. I never bought a box of Remington ammo again after that. And if your going to be bringing that stuff in June, you may want to bring alot of it. You may get lucky and burn off alot of ammo. That stuff is pricey. Just my .02 cents anyways.

Yellow Jackets work great in my bolt rifles but I do have feed problems in the 10/22.

Here is the old Cooey with a 5 shot Yellow jacket group at 25 yards.

Rem 22 ammo

On Rimfire central in the 22 ammo section you can read a hundred posts about the poor quality of the current manufacture of Remington rimfire ammo.

That said, I have one Rem round that shoots very well in most of my rimfires and that is the 36gr GameLoad. I have shot this accurately in my CZ Varmint, CZ Full stock. CZ Special, Win 69's (2) Win 61,Walther KKJ, Browning Lever, and my BRNO 581 semi auto. These are not real cheap at around $30.00 a brick. FS

Every semi-auto has its preferences. My 10/22 loves yellowjackets. I have a tough time finding them sometimes, so when I was in Kamloops last month, I stocked up.

I have had some trouble with FTF in the past in my 597. That being said that gun is famous for light primer strikes. Generally remington rimfire requires a little more of a whack than other brands. I have never had a problem with any of my other 5 or so .22's. As far as accuracy goes, I have found they are not a very good across the spread cartridge (as with most hyper velocity). Meaning that some guns really like them and some guns hate them.

That gaping hollowpoint really does a number on gophers too, one of my favorites.

They shoot pretty well out of my Cooey M60 and my Mossberg 151K. No FTFs of FTEs, only one shot needed(except of the 50 yard shot on a coon, did a double tap for that). They are somewhat dirty, so every 100 rounds (in a bolt), and 50 -75 for a semi, depending on your rifle. The hole that hollow point leave is pretty big, especially on the exit. I'm not sure how they are now(new ammo, recently produced) I have a brick left over from 94, so they may not be as reliable new off the shelf. my 2cents
Holleyman, the tin strip on your Cooey isnt all that bad; I once saw a guy with 6 inches of duct tape all up the fore end!
