The SPR453 is manufactured in Russia by Baikal. Speaking in the most general terms, Baikal shotguns have a reputation for rugged reliability. At the same time, they are not known for their fit and finish.
I read recently that Baikal has shipped more civilian firearms than any other single manufacturer in the world. Often times these kinds of claims need to be validated. By that, I mean that sometimes such a claim depends on the time frame that is chosen or your definition of "civilian" firearms, etc. Nevertheless, if they can even make such a claim, they have to at least be in the top makers by volume.
A relationship such as they have with Remington bodes well for consumers. In these deals, the specifier (Remington) contracts with the maker (Baikal) for certain models, at a particular quality, for a given price. These agreements are common in the firearms industry and they almost always result in a consistent and predictable level of quality.
My personal opinion is that Baikal makes as good a gun at the price as any other maker in business today. They won't be the most beautiful gun you've ever seen. They will be dependable and really good value for the money.

The US forums were very + on the Baikal MP-153, which, other than being renamed "Spartan" is the SPR453 from Remington.
