remington700 sps varmint what do u think

Hey .50 Cal,

Thank you. That makes me feel considerably better.

Actually, the store-owner waited until after I'd bought it to tell me that (while I was wrestling with the "to buy or not to buy" decision) that he had really wanted to say, "Don't wait. If you really want it buy it right now because it likely won't be here tomorrow."

He kept his silence because he didn't want to appear to be using that old car-sales "line" ... even if it was true ... which I think/realize now was classy on his part.

Incidentally, the actual salesperson was a very knowledgeable and very beautiful young woman ... perhaps his daughter?

In todays gun market there are 2 kinds of people.
The quick and the disappointed:D
Very seldom does a day go by now that I do not hear the words, I sure wish I had bought that yesterday, because today it is gone.

I just called Cabela's...The SPS Varmint 308 is $569 before $40 mail in rebate. Shipping to Nova Scotia was only $16.95!!!

This price is in effect until Dec 31 2008.

In stock ...

Yes, I saw that ad on their website yesterday. But, is it in stock right now?

I used to live in Manitoba and purchased several firearms at SIR ... so long ago that my first S&W automatic (brand new) was $52.50!!

I remember that on the back page of their early catalogues they sold Triumph motorcycles! Thunderbirds and Bonnevilles ... <insert sigh here> ...

Wholesale sports has them for $532, I believe, if they actually have any. :p

The gun store I go to a lot is Accuracy Plus, in Peterborough Ontario. Their prices on everything I've ordered in the last 2 years have been below the MSRP on Manufacturer's websites.

A Remington 700 SPS Varmint costs $572.00 there, but I already have 2 on back order, so who knows when the stock will come in :D

By the way, Blackwatch, are you referring to Cabela's Canada, aka SIR?

Cheers.

Tim

Good for me, then!:)

It looks like I got the last one in the country!! :)

Just like in that old saying ... "A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush."

Rebate on the VARMINT model as well?

Hi guys,

I see that the regular SPS has a factory rebate on the SIR / Cabelas website, but there was no mention of any rebate on my SPS Varmint when I bought it here in Alberta few weeks ago.

Anybody know for sure if it is applicable to the SPS Varmint model as well? Some posts here (On the SPS Varmint thread) would seem to indicate that that is the case.

Or perhaps I just missed a deedline / expiry date?

ww w.remington.com/pdfs/RemCouponENglish08.pdf

A link to the Canadian coupon. Looks to me like any 700 SPS is valid for a $40 rebate.

Vague coupon

Yes, thank you ... I'd already printed-out the coupon ... but it's unclear if it applies to only the basic SPS model or all SPS models.

The relevant check-off box just says "Remington Model 700SPS or Model 700 ADL Boly-Action Rifles"

I'll check-out the "Inquiries" connection at the bottom of the page ... stay tuned.

Help from Montreal member SVP?

Hi .50 Cal,

That were sure be an unexpected bonus, but may I ask how you know? I'm still a bit sceptical because of what I see on the SIR / Cabelas website. There are lots of Remington SPS rifles for sale (but many not in stock, as we know), but the only ones that offer the rebate are the basic least-expensive basic SPS models ... not the Varmint models.

The coupon provides a website (www.lecamp.tv/promotions ) to contact for details, but it's all in French. I'm sorta OK in French, but couldn't spot anything useful. There's also a Quebec phone number, but I'm not about to spend $10 (no long-distance plan) trying to find out if I can get a $40 rebate. Hey, maybe a CGN member in Quebec can phone and get a definitive answer for us. I think it's a Montreal number ... 418 682 3000 ext. 21

Alright!!

.50 Cal,

Merci ... I never saw that! Maybe you should tell Cabelas / SIR ... stuff like that gets missed in the course of a "friendly-buyout."

I owe you a beer ... let me know when you're ever up near the Crowsnest Pass!
