Remington's kiss of death

What about .30TC? I think that one is destined for epic fail... Similar to the .300 savage..

As for the big boys I don't think anyone can touch the 30-378 Weatherby for velocity and retained down range energy in a 30 cal round in an honest comparison.

All this said I still love remington guns... They have made some goodies over the years....

I've got mine, and its far from dead. In fact its right perky.

Amen to that! :D

The RUM cases are big for sure, but in terms of maximized performance and accuracy while fitting in a lightweight as well as compact action they are unmatched.
Fans of the 416 Rigby tout the big case for its low pressure at standard velocity and no less applies to the RUM line of cartridges.

Lots of guys complain about the recoil, but you never hear someone ##### about the accuracy of say a 338Ultra.
I pay attention when no less than Nosler calls the 375Ultra is the most accurate 375 or mentions the 300ultra shocked their testers with near bench rest accuracy...They don't say that about just any round.

The Rums are not for everyone, but for those of us that like hot-rods there are few substitutes.

Although it appears Remmington designed a bunch of looser, at least they were trying.
And they got some right as well .223,22-250,25-06,7-08,7mag,416.
Winchester made some loosers too.
.219,225,220swift,256,264,7-30,284,307,33,348,356,358.

The Swift is a loser ??? shame on you, shame , shame, shame.

The other issue in regards to the RUM cases is Rem overestimated the average shooter thinking that they could handle these cartridges and just like the FBI found out after they issued 10mm's to their forces these people just couldn't handle the power/performance of these cartridges so they had to down size to the 40 short & weak...

Yes the 40 S&W does the job just not as well...

I could be wrong on this, but, weren't the Imperial magnum series I used to see advertised in the gun mags also based on the 404Jeffries case. I remember seeing their guy at the Calgary gun show a few times, and I believe they were done on the Jeffries case. I know I considered one about 20 or 25 yrs ago. His guns were pretty decent, not too bad of a price for a custom gun at the time.

I'm afraid Remington's reputation is going down the drain with some of the product they have put out in the last 10 yrs or so. The quality certainly doesn't seem to be there anymore on the lower priced stuff, which has likely spooked people from buying the higher priced lines. Ie; how many people do you know that will run out and buy a Versamax?

It seems to me as though remington had an edge over winchester for the longest time since 1964 when winchester quality went down and remington stayed the same. Now Winchester has realized that people care more about quality products, than cheap manufacturing prices and have really stepped up their game. Winchester actually works to make a good product, Remington doesn't seem to give a rat's A@# if it's good, as long as it makes money

For me, Remington lost me when they stopped making bolt action rifles with a detachable magazine. Too bad really, they were my favourite at one time. Mmmm, so how come my only bolt Rem is a Model 7 with a drop plate in 7 SAUM LOL  Because I love the little sucker. To me that platform made sense for a short action mag.

same wth the 300saum, i love mine wouldnt part wth it for any money, as far as the caliber It drops moose and elk just as hard and as good as my 300 wby, or my 300rum, and its rt up there wth the 300wsm and 300 wm, I dont think that people gave them the fair try that they gave the other calibers
poor marketing I say

Lets not forget some new cartridges destined for obsolescence.
We have the 30 Remington AR - A sort of 284 necked up for use in an AR rifle with 308win velocities, but with higher pressures. It uses different mags and has a AR10 bolt face.

Then we have the "NEW" 30 Blackout - a 221 fireball necked up. A legitimized 300 Whisper which shoots 123gr bullets at 2200fps. A modern 7.62x39 - Wow what's old is new again!

Both of these cartridges were designed with the AR platform in mind and US hunters. I don't think both of these will survive.

Talk about loser's, how about Winchester WSM, WSSM cals. such like 223wssm, 243wssm, among others. I'm not even seeing factory rifles being built in those calibre's. Those are just the recent rounds of Winchesters loser's. I can see the 300WSM and 270WSM maybe mainstay's, but I don't know about the rest.

The WSSM's were about as good an idea as the RUM's! Good in theory, but nobody really wanted them.

The 270, 300 and 325 WSM's are here to stay. The .325 will always be less popular, but it seems to have sold better than the 7WSM, go figure.:p

and look at how proud browning owners are of there over priced rifles! how many remington stickers do you see on the back of a truck?

Remington's quality has been slipping for years, Us Browning owner just like to rub in the fact we bought good guns the first time around.

For the most part now Browning Firearms are not more expensive than similar offerings produced by Remington, give or take 200$ either way.

Never could figure out Remington's current marketing approach ....

The 7600 ( and predecessors ) remain quite popular here in the east - and still sell well, but try and find one in 25-06, 260, 280 or 35 Whelen ... all good cartridges. So what does Remington do ? ... continues to chamber the current 7600 crop in 243, 270 and 308
Winchester ( and, yes the 30-06, too ) ! Old Remington 222, 6mm, 280 and 35 Whelen pumps continue to hold their resale value quite well, however.

Seems a sort of a self-defeating internal strategy.

Don't have a 35 Whelen, but do have 260,25-06,7mm-08,and 257 Roberts. Not at all hard to aquire State side.
