Remington's new HyperSonic steel ammo?

Has anyone had the chance to try the new HyperSonic steel shotgun ammo from Remington? I would buy some if I can find an Ottawa distributor. Here's the advertising blurb on it:

I spoke to the guys @ St.Laurence Outfitters about this stuff. Their opinion is to steer clear of the SUPER FAST loads, that the patterns are like "donuts", lots of pellets in the circumference of your pattern, few in the middle... Thier words, not mine, but THEY hunt day in and day out, so I imagine they know what they are talking about...

I personally kill LOTS of ducks & geese with steel going 1550 fps in #2's and #4's... Considering the "average" lead load is somewhere in the 1200 to 1300 fps range, and steel is 30% lighter on average, then the 1550 fps stuff is just what makes steel "roughly" the same mass (recall F=ma) as our old lead loads... Roughly...

I know of a few fellows in the states handloading steel to these velocities and producing some fantastic patterns, of course they've tinkerring since steel was first mandatied so they may have a edge in testing and quality control on remington.

I doubt that it will work any better than Kent's Current Fasteel offerings. As far as I'm concerned 1 1/4 ounce of 1's moving at between 1550 and 1625fps is all the goose load ANYONE will EVER need. The days of longshots are DEAD, 40 yards is a really long shot considering most people shoot three boxes a year with very little practice.

I have major problems with these two claims, the shooter is what will put more pellets in the head and neck, and an 8" difference at 40 yards is insignificant to the normal shooter.

I used to reload to 1800 fps till it got too expensive. Now I shoot the 1550 fps stuff haven't noticed much difference. I probably will give some of this a try to see if the price difference is worth it. I am thinking it won't be.

Buy a Patternmaster choke...shortens your shot string and I can tell you it is the way to go. The ammo is also 27 bucks a box - I can figure out a lead for that kind of cash.

Of all the "magic" loads ever offered, the only one that ever produced better results for me was Hevishot. But after a few $12 teal, I realized that you just need to let the birds get closer and smack them with regular steel. I still keep Hevi for those crips that flop down into the water 60 -70 yards away but shoot the cheap Fed steel most of the time.

In 27 years of waterfowling I've shot literally everything on the market. I still shoot BP bismuth loads in an old LC Smith. If I was still on PEI I'd shoot the high density stuff since competition is high and ducks can be wary, chances spartan, and distances long.

Here in Alberta there is no reason you can't fill a limit by limiting your shots to -30 yds and shooting regular old steel. That said, I always seem to have a box of Black Cloud around and will be field testing the new Rem stuff.

I agree with what cinch is saying, I've had more success with the 1400. However I bet I could miss realy good with these super fast loads.

Black cloud is definitely a great option if you want to spend a few bucks more and get some serious results. I have seen birds nearly torn apart from really close shots which sucks for eating but gives you an idea about the hitting power at 30 yards.

not close to you but bass pro in toronto has it, i was there this weekend and it was a depate between trying that or the Hevy Metal by hevishot. i chose to stay clear from the remington stuff as for some reason it love to jam my remington up lol.

And you can use their spindly legs as toothpicks, I have always wanted to shoot one, apparently their numbers are up in ontario, maybe someday we will have a season.
