Reminton 700 vs Browning X-Bolt? Help me decide!

The Browning was gone after one season of coyote hunting........I found the bolt throw to be poor(very sticky).
Seems to be a recurring comment on these rifles. A young fellow at work just sold his for the same reason. The one I tried was smooth, but that was a sample of one.

I have owned both the Browning X bolt Hunter model in .243 and Remington 700 in .270(the good models..Mtn. rifle and a BDL.) CDL is on my wish list.

I still have the Remington 700 .
The only time I ever heard of anyone needing service on a 700 resulted in a very pleased and satisfied Remington customer .
My experiences only.........

if it was too sticky, something simple was wrong, clean her up and lube, a wee bit of break in perhaps, our X-bolts are smooth as can be. Browning = happy shooter around here.
I have nothing against the Remington 700 BDL's, I own a lot of them, and no problems whatsoever.

Look on EE. Even tho there are about a thousand times as many 700's out compared to x bolts you see more x bolts come up for sale used???

Really? ......... Any idea how many thousand times more 700s there out there compared to X-Bolts? Guess again.

it's the 308 short action for me over the 30-06 every time. My only long actions are in Ruger No.1's. You will absolutely love an X-bolt in 308. I didn't catch what you will be hunting, but you may want to consider the 7mm-08. As someone mentioned "it's a hammer at 500 yards".;)

I am of the same opinion as two-dogs. I prefer the .308 for the short action vs the 30-06, i find some long actions tend to sit the scope a little too far forward for my ideal eye relief.

As for the rem vs browning, it's a ford vs chev argument, both are good, both will do everything you want them to. As for looks it's personal preference, but i just got a new browning in .308, and i'm sold on the x-bolt.

As a small side note as well, the recoil pad on the x-bolt doesn't feel that impressive at first touch, but is very nice to shoot. Compared side by side to my savage 16 in .308, the browning is lighter, but yet the recoil feels very light, the heavier savage, which already has a nice recoil pad feels like it kicks harder.

Page one of the EE,

7 Remington 700's for sale
1 Browning X Bolt.

I'd expect that ratio to stand or grow if we counted on all the EE pages, not because one is better than the other and people are trying to dump them, but because there just are far and away more 700's out there from decades of production.

Try both for fit and take the one that is the best fit for you!
Any chambering will do from 6.5 swede to 30.06. I am leaving the magnums out of this.

To the OP........
So far, you have received some 5 pages of "expert"advice.
Looking back over all this, I see that only 3 or 4 seem to have actually owned and shot/hunted with both the X bolt and the good models of 700.
If I were you, I would pay more attention to what these 3 or 4 shooters had to say .

Actually, if you changed your page settings you'd still be on page 1 like me.... lol... just sayin'

I have owned and hunted with both the 700 and the Browning. I currently only own Brownings, I much prefer them over the Remington's. The browning Action just feels much nicer to me, very nice quality, and have never had one that wouldn't shoot. I have 2 A bolts and a newly acquired X bolt in 7mm rem mag.
I went with the X bolt and have no regrets, it is a very nice rifle.

just bought an x bolt in 300 wsm and put a vortex scope on it, i am now having problems with the brass hitting the turret and may have to install a rail to get the problem solved with good eye relief!
