are they compatable with AI stocks which is what i would up grade to either that or a cholate (is that how it's spelled) i know the remington 700 is which is what i was gonna get when i had more money (it's not a i don't wanna buy one and find out i don't like shooting? hunting deal for me) i heard allot of people mentioning the 700 SPS
Go for the Savage if you want the DM. Package deal is ~$450 or the regular models with DM for ~$550 and mount your own scope. I think they upgraded the DM's in the regular models, now bottom release. Package deals have side release.
Any of the rifles that were suggested and yes keep away from the 710. The Mossberg 100 ATR would be another option in the penny saving department, although I haven't heard much about it...
Mossberg is a fine rifle. A Stevens 200 is about $320 then you add rings and a scope. People praise the Stevens all around.
If you want best bang for buck, I would go with the Stevens 200. What caliber are you going with? Best of luck on your decision and i am glad you asked about the 710 as it is garbage.
One thing to remember if geting a stevens 200, is that it is the savage 10/110 action and barrel.
What cartridge were you thinking of buying? The magnums will boot ya pretty good in the savage/stevens models, but there are ways of getting around it.
I cant believe bartell said the Savage package gun I would consider the Remington SPS. Pick up a bushnell legend 3-9x. It should be all you need for an all around hunting rifle.
If you want to spend more its up to you. Let us know what you choose.
