i am thinking of getting a 700 sps DM in .30-06 or 300 win depending on which has the cheaper shells the 300 has beeter specs from what i haveseen buy the 30-06 has more shells if ones cheaper on ammo it will be the deciding factor now does any one know if 10 round mages are legal for bolt actions?

Attempting to descipher your post......

1. 30-06 is significantly cheaper (on avg) than .300.
2. 10 round mags ARE CFC legal for bolt actions, but check your local hunting regs.

If cost is a factor, buy a Stevens 200 in .30-06. Put a Bushnell Banner/Trophy scope on it and go kill some deer.

Starter rifle

Hi, if you want a starter, find yourself the old standby that has taken as many deer in canada as the Win 94. Find an British Enfield .303 in very good condition. These old tried and tested are even good moose guns at shorter ranges.

With all the "fancy" rifles I have, I am getting the urge to start using one myself. My father gave his to a friend years ago, I'm going to track the family heirloom down and get it back.

Lots of other folks will dispute the .303 as a good starter rifle, but they are the base, you can work your way up from there. Ammo is cheap and parts are plentiful. Plus you can't beat the 10 round magazine :dancingbanana: .

Arch:)

303 that has no where near the kncok down power of a .300 win mag it's worthless not lol :p

a lee enfeild is the only thing you can buy under 200 that was build better then an sks i've fired a .22 lee enfieild in cadets and it is well build beat the crap put of a bull with it and kee shooting shoot strieght i am thinking of getting one saw 2 at gangons and one sprteized had a bayonet mount y mom was like no

Mil-Surps...

enh i need all the accurasy i can get a smaller calliber probly won't hurt but for me i wouldn't a use mil surp for hunting

Nothing wrong with a properly done mil-surp sporter for hunting.

In the following pic below ... sporter Swede mil-surp above, full wood original below. Both in 6.5x55mm. Both could take a deer no problem...

but does the 6.5x55mm shoot through body armour?cause you never know when yu might be attacked by some one wairing body armour a good number of the people on the boards have it what would stop a member of PETAs MILITANT wing the Animal Liberation Front who has no prior crininal history of criminal convictions from going out and geting body armour before he or she goes out to say a hunting camp and starts shooting people you shoot them in the chest with say a .222 rem semi auto and they laugh and keep killing you cause the bulet didn't penitrate

PS please don't think i am crazy i just don't trust terrorists

And I thought your post was serious looking for a good econo hunting rifle. Then you go off spewing the above crap. Maybe you just aren't ready for the responsibility of owning firearms...

niot that it's just i want a rifle that is affordable but should i need to use it to defend my self from say a bear or armed human that i'll know i won't be let down

the 300 win mag is capable of amaising power though i would ebnifit from cheaper practise ammo of a 308 or 30 06 i'd feel much more safe taking a shot at a bull moose knowing i had mor ethen enough power behind the shot

the coment was ment more a a macabbe(did i spell it right?) joke but i guess i for got that not every one see's things the same as others

in most north american situations the .303, .308, and 30-06 will happliy do the job on deer bear and moose, as for the other part of your question.
if your actully comparing calibres to find one that will work on armed humans wearing body armour. then you will not find that answer here. if you are worried about a situation where you will be confronted by someone wearing body armour and has the intent of harming you you need to make some lifestyle adjustments. if you are serious about learning what calibers are suiteable for that type of situation join the forces and spend some time in infantry they will teach you all of that.

in the process of joining the reserves

i take the always be prepaired scouts moto seriousy never know what can happen

my coment about peta although it may sound infactual they are a number of insidances where they show such low value for human life such as statements towards AIDS research as well as destroying reaserch note that could lead to a life saving break through many times over to willfull destruction of property that i honestly could see them committing such an act

www.animalscam.com is a good resorce on some of the actions of and truths about peta

i don't do any thing illegal how ever many law abiding citizens can find them selves un willingly under threat from socitys criminal factions by accident

i never said i could spell i also have been ill these past few days and not 100% awake i'll edit when i am not tired so about the spelling
