Just bought an express 870 pump action, and it is jamming when I try to cycle the round after I shoot. I will pull the trigger and go to pull back on the slide but the gun will jam right up, the spent shell doesn't want to come out of the chamber. It was so jammed I had to pull the barrel off the gun and take it all apart then try to fight with the shell that was jammed in the barrel still. This gun is brand new, put a couple hundred target loads thru it in the last 2 weekends and had it jam probably at least 10 time or more. Any suggestions out there, I am running 2 3/4 inch 1 1/8 oz Winchester target loads, or should I just deal with the manufacturer on this??

I have a Remington 870 aswell and first time I took it to the range the same thing happened to me, as soon as I bought some higher quality ammo the issue hasn't occurred since. Not an issue with the gun as others said aswell

Winchester super target and winchester universal shells have a plated metal base that when fired expands in the chamber.unlike brass the plated metal does not shrink once the pressure of firing is gone.causing them to stick to the chamber walls.as stated above buy a better quality shell and problem is solved.

Thanks for the proper explanation.
Same thing happened to a guy at the range a few weeks ago. I swapped him a few of my federal target shells for his winchester target shells, and all of a sudden my gun was jamming instead of his.

To be honest, that is exactly what I thought was happening, just needed confirmation. Thanks.

One more time for a new Express owner. Remove the barrel & place it in a padded vise. Wrap some 000 steel wool around a 12 ga brass bore brush. Screw a portion of jointed cleaning rod to the brush. Chuck the rod in an electric drill. Apply metal polish ( flitz etc) NOT grinding compound, to the brush and let the drill do all the work polishing your chamber. Polish until the outer breach area starts to feel warm. Test with the cheap shells again. REMEMBER you are polishing the chamber not trying to remove any material. This will fix your gun and make it a reliable fun gun to shoot. Oh ya don't buy anymore cheap loads. BUT your gun will shoot them if none other are available.

How far up the barrel do you polish? Just the back end, or all of it?

Thanks for the tip!
