So a question for all the remmington guys out there!

From what I have read on SniperCentral.com the biggest difference between the LTR and the P is the stock and the Fluting on the Barrel.

The difference between the SPS and the the P is strickty the Stock, and the Varmint SPS is just a longer barrel then the SPS tactical.

I was under the impression that the Police and the LTR had beefier internals then the SPS but I am not sure now.

Can anyone verify the differances between the the Model 700's... The rem site is brutal for this kind of info.

Thanks

no the LTR has a 20" BBl and the P has a 26" bbl, big difference besides the fluting on the LTR.

also between the SPS variants and the LEO models also include rifle twist rates, but yes, the HS precision stocks are the major obvious differences.

And to add to the plethora of confusion there are 4 new models to add to the 'tac' line for 2009, and before anyone gets cranky I have a couple of 700P's but the product line is becoming much akin to Harley Davidson with 'new models' being introduced seemingly bi-weekly......

The barrel action on the SPS V, T and the Police are all the same..... They can vary interms of twist rates, length and coating, but they are the same otherwise...

Not sure if the LTR is the same or not as the others...

The actions are all the same. As for any difference in the so called Police/LTR models, there is nothing different. They are all factory mass produced rifles.

So pretty much the only difference is the actual length of barrel, and twist rate and stock??? The 5R has the different rifleing grooves

The only 700 that differes significantly is the VTR... with that weird triangle barrel (a barrel that I am not interested in at all).

As a off the rack tactical gun I am thinking the LTR or the 5R would be the #1 choice, then the Police, The the SPS VS ect....

Would I have that correct?

The differences include:

finish: blued (VS, VSF and many of the hunting versions), Rough black epoxy finish? (SPS, SPS tactical etc), Parkarized (Police known as the 700PSS or the newer 700P which are the same rifle), stainless (many of the hunting rifles versions, the 5R, and the XCR compact/tactical, tactical). The compact tactical has a black TriNyte PVD coating over the stainless, while the 5R has been bead blasted.

Barrel lengths: 26" is the most common, with LTR, XCR compactical, and the SPS tactical being 20". The 5R is 24" Some models have flutes, such as the VSSF II, LTR etc.

Rifling: Varying twist rates (1:12 for .308 being most common), with the 5r having the 11.25 twist rate in the .308 versions.

The different stock options are also numerous.

Are they all the same? I really don't know. I can say that some versions are well known to shoot very well out of the box. Is there any special care etc? Who knows. The 5R has been rumoured to come out of the custom shop while not being a custom rifle. That was during the initial runs, who knows if that was the case and even if it was whether or not it is today.
