Hey there. I was thinking about stripping the black paint off my 597 receiver and polish the aluminum underneath, so I could have a "stainless" receiver with a black barrel. Has anybody here already tried this? If so, any info would be greatly apprec...

Thanks,
Billy

That black paint is a protective coating, yor warranty or whatever will be void, re-sell value will go down as well. Aluminium is a VERY base metal if you know base-noble scale. It will oxidise quickly, especially if there is any contact with steel (barrel isn't it?) so your shiny receiver will rot fast. Apart from corrosion that black coating has certain thickness and proly incorporated into design. Voere for exampe will not cycle well if coating on trigger group is gone and mag sit too deep into receiver.

I would imagine, if the receiver is sandblasted (maybe the barrel too) you can get it professionally repainted. I have no idea about the cost. It may be way too much...
Camo paint is different. You can do it yourself and there is enough information about it on the Net. No need to remove the original bluing.

I have the receiver half stripped, would I be able to camo it right now with some of the paint left on it as well, it's all sanded pretty evenly but not smooth enough to repel paint! what kind of paint would I use and what type of clear coat?

As far as I know, you can use regular spray paint but you must remove all the oil and grease (including finger prints) before you start painting.
There are some excellent ideas on the Net regarding different colours, patterns and finishes.
Post pictures of the process! ;)

Do I need to clear-coat it after the paint had dried?? or can it be left alone?? and how long should I leave it before reassembly?

Thanks,
Billy
