Hey Guys,

So I'm a lefty and I shoot a remington 870 for a right handed. The problem is that when I am hunting it takes a little longer for me to switch off the safety because I have to reach around to the other side before I shoulder the gun. I was wondering if the safety can be switched so that if can be engaged/disengaged from the left side, and if so does has anybody done it and could they please instruct me on how to do it. Any help would be great!

You need to have a left hand trigger plate. Remington will only supply the complete assembly, for about $150.00, so you will need to look to the parts suppliers such as Numrich, who list the trigger plate as a separate part.
Another option is to cast about for someone interested in trading his trigger assembly for yours.

Practise taking the safety off as you shoulder. I've used 870's/1100 with the 'right hand safety' for years (I'm a lefty), and can do it very fast now.

It's annoying at first, but with practise, it's second nature. Easier/Cheaper than modifying, and you never need to worry about doing it wrong when you borrow someone else's gun. :)

If it's an older Remington (before the introduction of the J-lock) the safety can be reversed. I'm not sure if you can do it with the more recent versions.

The trigger plate assembly is different. The safety detent hole is drilled off centre and needs to be on the other side for left hand operation. I have made the modification on several before.
