Removal of flash hider. Need help

At a smith right now. Trying to get the stock flash hider off my m305b the castle nut has been freed but the flash hider won't budge. Any advise?

Large hammer! And give it as hard as you can.

Make sure you removed the set screw and back the nut off as much as possible first. Prop the gas lock on a long pice of wood and then smack the flashhider off with a cold chisel at the back of the bayonet lug and a large hammer.
 
As stated make sure the allen screw is removed ,move the castlenut towards the muzzle....AND HIT THAT THING !!!
Use a BFH and a good punch.
Once it breaks free and starts to move make sure that you unscrew the castlenut towards the muzzle each time as it will stop the flashider from moving forward.
 
Are you sure the castle nut is loose? It needs to have space to move.

Mine took some very solid whacks and the flash hider broke at the welds when it finally gave.

Worse case maybe a subtle dremeling? The high school shop class that stuck that one on must have been having a good day!
 
Keep at it... the worst that can happen is the FH will break, rare, but it does happen now and then.

Got it done. There was two weld spots holding it on that you couldn't see by looking at it. Good info for anyone else who does this in the future. You can't see the welds. But they are there.
 
There was a previous post on here regarding the flash hider removal, some of the guys were "new" m305's were saying they werent spot welded on anymore, I know mine wasnt and I bought it from Epps this past June.
 
Hmmmm...so you are saying the latest Marstar batch, their M305B's tp quote their website, have their hiders plug welded as in older batches like 2007?? My 2009, the hider slides of as normal USGI.

I don't know who this is (it isn't me). Probably one of you guys. I hope you don't mind that I posted your video. It would be better if the flash hiders weren't welded at the factory.
 
I bought a shorty from Canada Ammo a few weeks ago, 2012 markings, and the flash hider had two spot welds on it. It was very hard to tell by looking at it, just two small circles on the bottom of the hider, but I figured that's what it was. Sure enough after I got it off the weld could be seen. I had a big hammer, a solid piece of steel and a propane torch. I think the torch really helps loosen it up, as it came off quickly after that.

Hey.... that's us at the Halifax M14 Clinic Sep 2009, Navyshooter hosted me on that trip. Atlantic Marksmen Club , I believe. That was a pile of fun.

Yup, the biggest hammer you can swing. Just keep an eye on that castle nut closer to the muzzle then this hitting allows the newly freed up flash suppressor to move forward, even if it's a few mm at a time. Once you break those welds, you will know if your rifle was made on Monday, Friday or the middle of the week by the high school shop class kids. :D

That is POWMIA56 and that was @ 45ACPKING's house in Langley back before he left the lowermainland for 100 mile house.
 
Removed mine a couple weeks ago, bought the rifle from CanAm about a year ago and it had the two spot welds. Biggest pain in the ass in a while! Glad you got it off eventually!
