I picked up an SKS off the EE. Its a beauty non-issued, non-chromed Tula. The only fault it has is a frankenpinned magazine. Just wondering what I should do? I'm really not worried about matching parts, its going to be a shooter. Can I buy a non-frankenpinned mag and just replace it?

+1

Shoot it until the frankenpin works loose, patch and replace. Repeat as necessary.

Or getcherself a nice 5/30 and the pin is no longer an issue at all...

replacing the mag it the route I'd like to take, are there any reliability issues with the aftermarket mags? Do they all accept strippers?

If you are talking about a magazine that has a small leg welded onto the arm of the lifter, still making it a 5 round magazine, yes, you can.

If you are talking about a magazine that will accept 10 rounds, you might be a Guest of the Queen, with a lighter bank account, free room, meals, and various supervised activities for the next year or so, yes you still can. A bit risky though.

I bought 2 of the 5/5 Tapco magazines and the floor plate has cracked already on the one I am using, after about 3 months of use (not very many rounds through it, maybe about 100 -150 rounds). :(

If the 5/5 mags were sold by TAPCO, they have a lifetime warranty. I told them where I bought it and the invoice number. They sent me a new one,did not even ask for the old one. The 5/5 round Zytel mags were not made by Tapco but were sold by Tapco. Maybe there has been some problems thats why they are no longer on the Tapco site.

eh, probably not worth the effort right now, but I can get the original magazine going anyways. ;)

Why don't you get 91/30. Word of advise try to shoot 91/30 once then make your decision.

Hey Westrifle, I am thinking of getting an M44 one of these days, I think the ammo you are going to get in looks cool (copper cases neat).
