Yep, Restricted. Just because it is marketed in the US as a hunting rifle, and it is a practical and functional hunting rifle, doesn't make it any less of an AR-15 variant here in Canada.

But, but... it's camo!?!? :p

Good point- it's not actually a "black" rilfe.

I started this thread to inquire as to what the government tells people are the reasons for restricting AR15 variants:
http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...-from-the-govt-as-to-why-AR15s-are-restricted

To date, I don't think there were any explanations given, other than some people think they look scary.

I sent Mr Toews a letter suggesting that there really aren't any valid reasons for AR15s to be restricted (at least for those AR15s that aren't captured under existing restricted rifle criteria), and cc'd my MP.

My MP's office phoned back to say that he agreed, and would be contacting Mr Toews about the issue.

Of course, since then Mr Harper appears to have said that he is NOT in favour of proposed changes to firearms laws (there seems to be some debate about whether he's opposed to all or just some).

So, I'm thinking it's quite unlikely that we'll see any changes that would enable us to (legally) use AR15s anywhere other than certain ranges.

In the beginning the AR was to be prohibited the same as every other black rifle in existence at the time. Then DCRA petitioned the government to take the AR off the list because it was heavily used for service rifle competitions. So they made it a named restricted instead, which still allowed competition use at a range but screwed everybody else.

There is no explanation as to why ANYTHING is on a prohibited list beyond fear and the civilian disarmament agenda. It certainly wasn't a public safety issue, despite Mr. Harper's bullsh!t in parliament the other day.

I have an R-25 (same thing but in .308).

I kinda laughed when I read about it before picking it up.

Holds 4 rounds (for hunting)

Has a recessed crown and no flash suppressor (because it's for hunting)

Comes in Realtree camo (since it's for hunting)

Great accuracy at hunting ranges (because that's what you want when hunting)

Sloppy super safe trigger (safer when hunting)

Can I hunt with it?

NO! ITS :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:ING RESTRICTED!!!!

:)
