Bought a used taurus model 608 the other day. 357 magnum 8 shot double action. Took it to the range today. I would rather have spend the $500 on ammo. This is the worst firearms i own. My tokarev is better. Gun won't function unless it has a full cylinder, and half the time you can't close the cylinder to shoot it! This gun is crap. I refuse to sell it to my worst enemy. Should have spent an extra $500 for a 686.

That's too bad. I find when you Google anything Taurus, there's more bad than good things said about them. I don't think they have a good Quality control during manufacturing.
 
My girlfriends dad has a Taurus revolver in .357, and he loves the thing. Reliable as a hammer and built just like, but that seems to be the song of the day for Taurus, quality control.
 
Yeah they claim to have lifetime warrenty, so I called and since i'm not the original owner and the first owner never sent warrenty papers in i'm on my own. Dropped it off at my gun smith who works on smith and wesson revolvers so hopefully he can work some magic on this p.o.s.
 
I liked my TCP until it broke. They paid express shipping both ways but it took over a month and I am in the USA. They replaced it with a brand new one.

Bought a Sig P238 in the meanwhile and the TCP will be sold so I don't have to deal with the slow turn around again. By comparison, Glock paid both ways and had to back to me in 1.5 weeks.
 
I have a Taurus Raging bull and I couldn't more happy. It always goes boom and is also accurate. I will admit the trigger is not the best but also far from the worst.
 
Holy smokes, Taurus really is taking a beating here. Couldn't agree more though. The only good things I've heard of Taurus as of late is the 'Raging Judge' line. Even then there are the odd few who have had... complications.

S&W is quickly becoming a favorite brand of mine, for good reason it would seem.
 
I agree with the general line of thinking in this thread.

I wouldn't own a Taurus except as a random goof-off purchase. Service is terrible, on a gun likely to need service if it gets shot.

I prefer guns unlikely to require service, which can be serviced readily in the unlikely event i becomes necessary.
 
I have many revolvers.
Mostly older S&Ws, 1937 to 1995 manufacture.
Three Colts, SAA, Model 3-5-7, and one Anaconda.
Two Ruger Old Army cap&ball revolvers.
One Dan Wesson Model 44 of Monson manufacture.

Notice I do not own a Taurus. I've experienced lead spitting from sixguns exactly twice in my life.
One was a 1972 Colt Detective Special (briefly owned) and the other was a Taurus revolver in 357. (never owned it)
 
So you bought a used gun and it sucked. Maybe the previous owner screwed it up and that is why he sold it.

Don;t blame the company.
 
This site is good for that, if you take all the plus and minus at the end you can make a trouble free choice... JP.

Between just this site and MAC on youtube, I have had my soul saved from many duds. As the OP said, I'd rather pay more and get quality.
