i'd be more than happy to help out any club in ontario that wants to pay me $50/hr to RO....just putting that out there! Might as well add the $0.40/km travel as well seeing as how we are going down this road.....

I normally get $30/hr, $0.42/km, double time after 7.5 hours, dinner after 9.5 and a per diem if I have to overnight of $80.
A two day level II should net me....over $800 plus two meals
An extra $10 per shooter should cover it.

I don't mind doing the scores but I'm not sure where the 1-1.5 hour figure comes from. At a level II with over 700 score sheets to total, verify and enter not to mention set up and importing of the shooters it takes a lot longer than 1.5 hours.

That was an estimate for 60 competitors and a 4 stage match. I did it alone in 1.5 hours or so for Aurora CIM match. It is faster when two people doing it.

Setting up match and importing competitors is already automated on IPSC Ontario site. You just need to use it.

Cool! So, we have an RO market and MDs can select cheaper ROs. :D

BTW, one can train a monkey to enter scores much cheaper then $125/hour.

Pat, last time I checked, you wasn't an RO. :kickInTheNuts:

Maybe the top three clubs in the poll should not be allowed to host any matches for a year, that will teach them! The clubs volunteers can focus on shooting matches, practice and all the other fun stuff they gave up to host the matches that some competitors like the OP appreciate so little.

with palm and tablet scoring systems, you don't need anyone to do stats, they are getting done during the match and are finished the second you score the last shooters final stage

:agree:

Considering there are sooooooo many matches with sooooo many empty slots who will notice right?

Maybe it's because of attitudes like the OP's that have created the abundance of matches? All the thanks and high praise makes all the MD's want to work so much harder for free!

The only thing I can think of saying is :stfun00b: but that would be rude and in poor taste and not doing much to improve the situation. But Oh well......it's OK cuz I am just sayin, don't mean anything by it.

You probably need to check again and look reeeeal close

So no one has adressed making volunteering a part of the match.

This is the Alberta rules for matches:

Match Attendance

· Working the match is a requirement to shoot in IPSC Alberta. The Match Director (MD), Range Master (RM) or Chief Range Officer (CRO) will let you know where help is required. If you do not work the match you will receive a zero as your score. Continued issues will be brought to the Section Coordinator to be reviewed.
· Unless otherwise specified, stage tear down is also a requirement. Workers on the stage and shooters that shoot the last stage are required to help tear down and move the props into storage. If you cannot help tear down you must ask the Match Director for approval to leave early. If you leave without approval, you will receive a zero as your score. Continued issues will be brought to the Section Coordinator to be reviewed.
· You are required to be on the range for your work or shoot shift at the specified time. If you are a few minutes late you will be given a warning. If you show up after the squad(s) has completed shooting the stage, you will receive a zero for the number of stages/squads that you missed. Match volunteers that get pulled away for match related issues are exempt from this rule. Continued issues will be brought to the Section Coordinator to be reviewed.

Remember it takes a lot of volunteer hours to put on a match. IPSC Alberta volunteers need your help to put on a successful IPSC Alberta Qualifier
.

I think the logic has been that with almost 1000 members why should ppl be forced to. This only seems to come up when somebody whines ah, er complains the results aren't up fast enough for them.

I also think that we would rather have ppl volunteer becasue they want to, not out of fear they'll face some sort of conscequences if they don't. You have to admit it was nice at last years nationals not being forced to work and being able to shoot at your best or actually see some sites for those not from the area.

semantics aside, if you are expected to patch at a match, why can't you be expected and tasked to score? I know there are days I'd rather sit in the stats shack than RO. I'm really not understanding how this is an issue. One person can score in the morning then one can score in the afternoon.

That's how "we" (AB) do it!
