Removing a Rem 700 barrel

Sorry for doing the drive-by on you, JP. Just could not help myself.

I see no reason that any type blocks/bushings will not work. An old friend here used wood and got along fine for what seemed like centuries.

As I stated earlier, you must remember that the 700 Remington threads have a locking substance inserted at some point during, or after, manufacture. Heat is your friend.

When you speak of some of the old military rifles, especially if the barrel you are taking off is completely tired, a parting cut just in front of the receiver will save a lot of needless effort.

Also, remember that the original intent was to rid that usable action of a barrel. Save the barrel if it is worthwhile. Otherwise make a tomato stake of it.
