removing AR magizine rivet?

Ive noticed some dealers are selling self leveling magazine followers and I would like to try one out in one of my cheaper AR mags, I'm guessing Ill have to remove the rivet in order to get the current follower plate out seems how it was placed there to stop the plate from going any lower then five rounds. Can I do this legally and re rivet it after the new follower plate is installed?
 
once the spring is out you can usually tilt the follower. If you take out the rivet you have exactly 30 seconds to get the new one in or there will be a knock on the door. I'm not lying:D honest
 
This kind of paranoia is why the anti's are winning. Yes of course you can remove the rivet to add that new part or clean your magazine. To be guilty of a crime you would have to intend to convert that mag back to a normal capacity magazine by leaving out the rivet. You are not "of the mind or of the body" to commit a crime. Just do the work all at the same time and you will be fine, just don't leave the job lying around partially undone.
 
This thread was a long-time coming....;)

But, long-story short, people remove and restore rivets all the time when they take apart & clean their magazines...:yingyang:
 
Just a quick heads-up for the rivet-removing crowd... bear in mind that discussion of illegal activities (such as not replacing the rivet) is against board rules.

I'm just saying it before a Mod wanders in and slaps someone's #### (at which point, as with the rivets, it will fall off). :D

Rivet out-clean or replace-rivet in: okay.

Rivet out-leave it: illegal.

Which are illegal according to a previous case which is now precedent! Simple possession of the components is also illegal!

To the OP just do it but put it back together then and there and rivet it back. In the 5 minutes it will take to do this you are not gonna be arrested! Relax.
 
Before you remove the rivet you have to put a wad of duct tape around your ####. Do not shave before putting duct tape on.

What falls off if they don't have a #### when they remove the rivet? What if it's a she!!

No rivet-less good times for my girlfriend if i can help it; if you know what I mean :D
