Now I know it's supposed to be an easy thing, take a punch, take a hammer and tap out the lower pin...... BUT mine appears to have been welded in there! It's brand new and I've gone and upset myself to the point of trying to hard, slipping with the punch, and scratching right across the new finish.

Has anyone had issues with the lower handguard pin? It almost looks like it's slightly muschroomed at both ends! There was a mark next to it as well where you can see they hammered it into the rifle at the factory.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I REALLY want to put the new NEA madular handguard on that I have sitting NEXT to it right now!

Cheers!

It only comes out one way... its tapered. You have to drive it out from the small side. Mine took a couple good taps to get it to move, but once it started, it just popped right out. If your driving it the wrong way youll be at it forever.

It is not tapered. It's a straight pin that may have the ends flared to hold them in place.

Get a punch and a big hammer and hit it.

Mine would only go back in one way. It was fairly obviously thicker on one end than the other. I'm just sayin... InknownbecUse I tried to get it back in the wrong way and the diameter of the pin was too big.

Please re-read my comment. They flare the ends to hold them in place.

Depending on how you drive the pin out, one end may be "larger". That's not the same as the pin being tapered.

First time I took mine off the pin was no problem . The problem I had was getting the hand guard off after pulling the pin . Took quite a bit of gentle tapping with a screwdriver and hammer to get that damn thing to move forward enough to come out .
Sorry you scratched the beaver barf . Might give you a reason to buy better looking guards

Thanks guys, guess I will find a better punch and just beat the crap out of it.

On a side note... anyone know how to get rid of a long scratch along the smooth receiver of the CSA VZ? Must admit I may have thrown the punch across the room when I did it as the whole purpose for buying the CSA vs. the CZ for me was the nice finish, and it took me 1 week to mess that up!

Maybe try automotive touch-up paint? Black shouldn't be too hard to match, or at least it won't show much if it's not the right shade.

I found my CSA's paint to be much less durable than my CZ's.

Hi all, I'm having the same problem with my VZ 58. The lower handguard looks like it is riveted in. It doesn't even look like a pin.

Unfortunately I've hammered away at it from both sides, so now its deformed, but you can see what I mean still. It is the same on both sides of the receiver. I'm wondering if I take a dremel tool to it and just grind down the head, maybe I can pop it out.
