Removing factory muzzle brake

I have a Remington MLR with a factory brake installed. I'd like to remove it and replace it with a gill style brake so I dont have to eat dirt when shooting prone.

Any tricks for removing the factory remington brake? Heat? big pipe wrench?

Some of the guys on sniper hide have heated there's to 450 degrees and stuck a screwdriver in the port and given it a good smack with a hammer to break them loose.
