If the rifle has been sportered as many have been, don't even think about removing the forestock.
Instead, think about removing the triggerguard assembly.
Press the mag catch, hold it in and remove the Magazine downwards.
With a SMALL screwdriver, loosen the transverse screw at the upper rear end of the triggerguard.
With a larger screwdriver, loosen the large screw at the front of the triggerguard.
When both screws are loose, remove them carefully. The big screw has a spring washer and a hollow stud with it which may or may not come out; don't lose anything.
Pull the triggerguard off the rifle. Use a pull on the guard itself, a bit sharply.
The forestock now will fall off. If it doesn't just fall off, give it a downward tap on the woodwork at the extreme rear end.
Hope this helps.
