removing Glock17 front site

I'm pretty sure all you need are a pair of needle nose pliers. Just squeeze the two tabs together on the inside and pull the sight out from the outside of the slide.
Unless you have an aftermarket sight that is made of metal and is screwed in. Then it's just a very small nut that needs to be undone. If you are installing a new sight that uses a nut, make sure to use a very tiny drop of locktight to keep it in there.

-Remove slide from pistol.
-Remove barrel and recoil spring.
-Hold the slide vertically against the edge of a table or work bench with the sight against the table top.
-Bang the barrel end of the slide downwards with the heel of your hand, removing crappy plastic sight in one smooth motion.
Voila! You're an apprentice Glock gunsmith!

In order to answer the question, there are thre types at least of ways the front sight is held on.
1/ Standard non-tritium plastic front sight has an insert put in from inside the slide that spreads the insert. The tiny insert can be dug out with a dental pick and then the sight comes out easily.
2/ Trijicon sight with screw.... use a small nut driver to remove the small screw on the inside of the slide to remove the sight.
3/ Stake in front sight (used on Trijicon factory sights). Do not remove if you want to reuse it. Remove it by putting the sight in a vise and wiggling the slide back and forth until it loosens and you can pull it out. Much like a dentist remove people's teeth.
