Removing HBWC Bullets From Casings?

Can you remove a HBWC (hollow base wadcutter) from a case?

These projectiles are inserted flush with the case and I cannot remove them with a kinetic hammer.

Any help would be appreciated - THANKS !!!

YES they are tight. As I mentioned above, the bullet is inserted flush with the case rim.

why won't they pull with a kinetic hammer? It should not matter if they are flush or below the case neck ! Might take an extra swat ot two but they should go, As it is the bullett's own weight that does the work! The only time I have trouble is with light .224 diameter stuff that is heavily crimped. YMMV.

Why not just shoot them?

That is the objective when making them.

But, if I wanted/needed to break them down to components, how would you do it?

Just a matter of a tight crimp. Hit Harder and it will take more than 1 or 2 strikes with it. They will come out with more persuasion

Without going to a lot of work and ruining the cases, there are only two ways of getting them out of there. One is the normal way involving targets and triggers, the other is with a kinetic puller. I've done it myself with flush-loaded wadcutters.

The problem you may be having is that the bullets tend to be fairly light and there is more surface contact with the inside of the case than with a protruding bullet. If you have crimped them heavily, it will be a bit of work but it is still possible.

Here's a recipe;

- mount the round in the reloading press.
- screw a long screw through a tough piece of wood (on top of the press), through the hole where the die would be, into the bullet.
- lower the ram.

You'd have to have a single stage press, and care a lot do take this amount of trouble.
