Removing Lubrication???

Hey all. I have a quick question regarding taking the lubrication off of my cases. I have been loading for about 12yrs and usually do lots of between 50 to 100 rounds. I would like to do a 1000 round load. I have always just used an old towel to take off my case lube. It takes a long time and hands can get sore. I am looking to see if anyone has a more efficient way of removing case lube for doing 1000 rounds.

I do the same with the rag. I`ve read lots that guys will just use a tumbler. I usually wipe all my brass before I tumble, in my head i`m thinking that I am saving the life of the tumble media.

Hi guys.....what are you using for case lube?
If you are using Hornady 1 shot or any similar spray, you dont need to wipe it off - i used to use it but I switched.

I use Unique now - comes in a small tub. Get a bit on your hands and that will get enough on the brass as you handle them to size them. Again, I dont wipe it off - there is not much on to start with.

The one step I do is tumble all the brass FIRST. It gets all the dirt and grime off them and that way they are nice and clean and wont scratch up when you re-size them. Also keeps the walnuts out of the primer pocket. Then after I deprime/resize I have a flat blade screwdriver that fits the primer pocket exactly = stick it in, a quick turn, the primer pocket is cleaned up.

You could give them another tumble at this point - that would get the lube off - up to you.

Not saying it's the best way, but it's what I do.

I use methal Hydrate in a tupperware container to wash it off and then a quick rub of an old towel and they are done. If the tupperware seal up the MH does not evaporate

if running small batches like 50 or 100 rounds i toss about 1 or 2 handful of sized cases at a time in an old sock and sort of smush it around even though there is probably no need for it.
the sock materiel absorbs any lube that may be left on the cases.

for larger quantities you can use an old pillow case.

As for media getting stuck in primer pockets.
I have stopped having that issue since a started to use very small sized media which I get at the pet store.
It is crushed walnut that is used as bird cage bedding.
I have been using this media for the past 3 years and have not had it get stuck in primer pockets, at least not like some of the other commercially available walnut media.
And it doesn’t leave a red dust residue like the lyman stuff does.

Once resized I throw them into the ultrasonic cleaner for a couple cycles. Then into the oven on a cookie sheet at 250F for 10-15 minutes to dry them and then into the tumbler with extra fine untreaded corn cob media to shine them up.

I reload .308 in 50-70 round batches, I lube with Lee sizing lube, then resize, then they go in the ultrasonic with just water and soap, then air dry for a night.

They come out spotless, just make sure you use a water soluble lube.

If you are doing rifle rounds for a bolt one option is to go to a collet type neck sizer.
No lube required.

Anything else, I do as others, into the tumbler.

Run them through a tumbler for 40 minutes or so. That will delube the cases fine.

I don't see what's wrong with running them through the tumbler also.

Some follow up - so I just made 50 270 shells this morning.

Tumbled first to clean them up up (last night), then sized them, scraped the primer pocket with a screwdriver, tumbled again about 30 min, and primed, filled and stuffed some 130 grain bullets in them and done.....

The tumbler takes all the lube off (although there is not much on to start with)

I throw the loaded ammo in the tumbler for 30 min. Cleans off lube and shines them up a bit.

Since I started using crazy clothes to clean my brass, I had nothing to with my tumbler. It was around that same time I started tumbling to de-lube. I also neck size, which has cut down on the amount of lubing/delubing that I have to do.
