Had some contact on my BF McMillan stock/Kreiger combo. Used the Dremel to relieve the stock but the Dremel was too much for the plastic handguard. I'm looking for recommendations on what to use to remove plastic from the handguard in order to eliminate contact with the monster op rod guide. Regular sand paper and mini files don't seem to hack it.

thanks for your words of wisdom

I grabbed my pole sander and put it in the vise. On the pole sander I used 150 grit sand paper then worked my way down to 400 to get it all smooth. Then with th 1/16th of an inch space evenly done threw out the stock to handguard legthn accomplished left me with a smile on my face. Hope this info helps ya out ;)

Sand paper on a flat board. Can't see why you would want to rush the process and risk taking off too much. It doesn't take long with the right grit, and with a long flat surface the gap will be even.

i think he is talking about the inside clearance, between the top surface of the oprod guide and the inside surface of the handguard, not the stock to handguard clearance.....
the heavy barrels have a significantly larger oprod guide than standard and medium contour barrels.

the Doc is correct

The op rod guide in the heavy Krieger is HUGE. The handguard actually bows over it. I need to remove plastic from the handguard to eliminate contact with the 9-3 o'clock portions of the guide.

This effort will be a trial and error, keep sanding until you are clear proposition. It's a lot of work, but it's so worth it for that "oh so sweet" Krieger Heavy NM barrel.

bush: It's all part of the learning curve. What does not cause your #### to fall off only makes you stronger. :dancingbanana:

Then when you take over my M14 clinics after some school bus runs me over, you can say, "Been there, done that!". :D It's all good learning!

You might wanna keep a spare hand guard nearby.... I've screwed up a couple of my own in the past.

 and keep us updated on your progress!

After having not much luck getting my Fulton handguard to fit I went to my Norc stash and took the Doc's advice. The plastic on the Norc was much harder and easier to work with! I hope the above pics show up (1st pics). They show that the Krieger is literally DOUBLE the size of the Norc, hence the need to relieve material from the handguard.

thanks again
