Removing muzzle brake

Lol true. I'm patient tho. I can't help I noticed something where it threads to the barrel. The factory shot it
and I don want there lack of cleaning to Result in corrosion. I won't take it off unless I'm confident I know how to do it right.
I don't want to mark anything up.
Is it possible to loosen or over tight the barrel to the receiver while trying to remove or install a muzzle device .i don't want to do this either

Put tape on it on the wrench or the brake if your sooo worried about marring up the finish. Less talk and just do it. Look at your brake it threads on, than you got a index nut that also thread on. It works on the principal, of if you tighten 2 nuts together they pretty much locks it solid. You shouldn't need lock tite with JAM nut.

Loosen you put a wrench on the brake and one on the lock nut and pull the wrenches away, tighten you push the wrenched together. 1/4 turn extra should be tight enough.

You index by threading in the lock nut than threading on the brake. You need to loosen and or tighten the lock nut to ensure its index. Or can mark it where it is now so when you tighten you just allign it to the same spot.

Hmmm... What makes you assume the factory uses corrosive ammo? I've had rifles sit for years after shooting factory ammo, with no discernible signs of corrosion...

FWIW - Any modifications or damage done by the owner during the warranty period are grounds to void the warranty. Given that you havent shot the rifle, don't you think your first priority should be to ascertain the functionality of the rifle?

Warranty is a year but I got it thru a savage employee and apparently she can get warranty work covered even after that. It will be shot in the next few months. Maybe what I'm seeing is like red loctite? I figured since I cleaned and oiled the rifle I should clean and oil the barrel threads as well.

It helps the appearance enormously if you turn it in the wrong direction also. If that cheap crescent wrench slips, go at it harder with a pipe wrench or vice grips.

Yup, and the heat from the torch will only add to its appearance.
Unless one likes to fix things till they are broke, it is best to leave it to the experts.
Rob

Vise grips, only mark it up once than you just line up the teeth marks the next time...

Oxy Acetylene, heat it up to burn off the red lock tite and remove it all in 1 step.
