Removing muzzle break

Hey . What is the best way to remove a muzzle break off s barrel without a gun vise? Does drilling a half hole in 2 2x4 then vise it work?

It's a brake not a break.

How is the brake installed? What kind of brake? It is usually easiest to put something into the side or through the brake and then use heat to loosen the Loctite and twist it loose and un-thread it.

I use 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood, 4"x4" with a v notch groove cut through the center of both. And my big vise, bolted to the work bench. Sandwich the barrel.

Wouldn't budge so I sprayed penetrating oil and put a screw driver through the brake to screw it off. No problem.
