Hi, have a new to me Savage 99, it has the full original iron sights, plus a Williams peep sight stuck on. I am not sure if the rear iron sight was removed so the peep sight could be used, or the peep sight was stuck on after the fact, but you cant use the peep sight or the original iron sights as it is. I went to remove the peep sight, there seems to be only the one screw hold ing it on, but it is still rock solid with the screw removed. Is there another screw I am not seeing, or perhaps epoxied on? Thanks in advance for any help.

There are two screws one is behind where the upper part of the mount dovetails into the lower base. You have to remove the sight bridge from the base to access the second screw.

My Williams peep on my 99 is attached to the holes for the rear scope base. Yours must be a different model. Try removing the slide (the part used to adjust elevation) there may be another machine screw there. If it was mine I would drift out the rear sight and use the peep, but that is just me.

Yes there is a second screw under the slide, but you are much better off using an appropriately sized aperature sight vs an open v notch.

Just for your own benefit, try using the peep sight before you give up on it. It is a far superior sighting method vs the common open rear sights that we almost all started out with. A short time getting used to a peep pays big dividends - faster to use, more accurate, and better adjustments. Just avoid using tiny target apertures for hunting and I predict you will be a convert.
