Just curious how much it costs to renew an expired PAL/RPAL? Do you have to go through the entire process again to renew or is it just paying a simple fee?

I called the guy that did my course/testing and he suggested I call the canadian firearms program, I was told I could juat submit the paper documents for renewal, I sent them off last week and waiting to see what happens

Mine expired in 2017 and I assumed I would have to redo the courses and testing, but it seems that unless you have firearms related offenses your passed tests remain in good standing.

i just went through this, there is a form for you to submit for renewal of an expired licence, i will find my pdf and let you know where to find it online.

I am thinking about taking the RPAL course in hopes of someday acquiring a handgun. With everything going on with our government would I have any problems getting an RPAL? Are they still issuing them as they were prior to the ban? Or it more difficult in anyway to get it. I have the non restricted pal and clean record.

Its a waste of money to get it. Just stick to NR, nothing is changing, regardless of who is in power.

Get your RPAL.

It's not a waste of money, it's a license that can get you employment.

Just like having your DZ.

If your Canadian firearms license (PAL/RPAL) expired recently (within 6 months), you can likely renew it online or via a paper form (RCMP 5614) through the RCMP Individual Web Services or by calling 1-800-731-4000. If it's been longer than six months, you might need a new application (RCMP 5592) and possibly need to retake the safety course, but contact the Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) at 1-800-731-4000 first to confirm your eligibility and process before possessing firearms.

Enjoyment to buy handguns? Wait.... ARs! Wait... Short barreled rifles! Wait... Short barreled semi auto shotguns that are readily available in NR that are now on a registry and can be expected to be turned in? Yeah!
But then they can borrow handguns! Sure, good luck finding someone that will agree to that arrangement if its not immediate family.

Save your money, go buy a nice gun thats NR instead of throwing money into something that has a net zero return for you at this point.

If you focused the time you spend on this forum posting on behalf of businesses and other weird ####, you might actually have a useful talent at this point.

Speaking of businesses: if you ever want to work for one, all the licenses I've seen have a condition that employees must have a restricted license.

But suit yourself. If saving that restricted fee is important to you...

And if you are looking to save, I will also take this opportunity to remind people that 'sustenance hunter' option is a legitimate choice for anyone who hunts ;)

You made a good point that I didnt consider. My uncle has handguns and would absolutely let me take them to the range. So rpal would allow me to go pick them up from his house and take to the range? As far as buying a nice NR goes, tonight I bought a new Marlin 1894 in 357mag

Employment. But if you had comprehension skills you would have figured that out with the following sentence of "just like having a DZ license.

And your talent is discouraging people from getting their RPAL.

Amazing
