FWIW....My son's PAL expired and was for a couple of yrs. I thought he was going to have to re-write his CFSC all over again....NOPE...paid his money...sent in his pic (had to send it in twice, as they never liked his first one ..cropped too much) took him about six months to get it back...but he GOT IT !! This was 2 yrs ago ! There's hope.

PAL course is valid forever. Keep your copy.
Strange though how some don’t have to go through the complete vetting/investigation process after a +6month lapse.

Why can’t it be used as a test in court to invalidate the whole pal system/legislation

First I have heard of this, I was under the impression in 2019 that you would have to re write the CFAC test.

Perhaps that has changed as...

The RCMP do state that you can only do this by mail in. No Online, as per website.

You cannot renew your firearms licence online if any of the following conditions apply:

  • your licence has expired or is otherwise no longer valid
Good luck, & welcome back.

Thanks for the welcome back

I assumed I was going to have to redo it aswell and was suggested to call by the guy that did my pal/rpal tests all those years ago.
The only thing I couldn't provide was proof of passing the courses as that's long lost, but having my old pal on hand is proof enough to me, maybe they agree.

Everything's so expensive now haha

You only have to redo your CFSC/CRFSC if you had a firearms related charge, if not you just pay the $70 or whatever it is to have it renewed. Shouldn't take too long. You can contact your provincial CFO for your CFSC/CRFSC paperwork, they keep a record on hand.

When I was in my classes my 3 teachers, ( 1 EA for pal, rpal and hunting) all told my groups that test results do not expire. The RCMP has a copy so you should just reapply like normal. You are subject to the 28 day minimum waiting period and normal approval process

Take with a grain of salt but the one teacher claimed he was the ex On CFO but I never looked into whether that was true or not.
