it had the unlucky fate of being the first battle ship clobbered by airplanes in open waters

Pictures were taken by staff photographer of that shipyard. No idea his/their name(s).

I found these posted on a Facebook page, "Battleships, Battlecruisers, & Monitors: The Big Gun Through Two World Wars"
These great pictures were posted by a gent by the name of Brian James, who said he found them on a Russian website!!!!!!!

I did an online search for that book and many are the same photos.
