I was wondering if anyone had a problem like this before, cause I have never seen it before, and neither had several friends. Its a remington 700 sendero, stainless fluted barrel. Looks to me that the bolt handle is possibly silver soldered on and that the joint failed. I am not sure of what my repair options are, other than checking with remington, any advice? Thanks for looking!

Its not that rare a failure; I've seen a number detached from the bolt body. The handles are induction brazed in place. You can contact Remington for the nearest authorized service centre. Or, many gunsmiths could reattach the handle with silver solder. The handle must be properly indexed for correct function. I have heard of handles being TIG welded on, but am not aware of anyone in Canada doing this.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. The bolt handle sits right back into position onto the bolt body snug enough it would appear together...
The rifle is several years old and I would suspect well out of warranty, but never hurts to ask. It wasn't a hot load and a hammer exactly... I tried to chamber a round that had some tape residue on it, my bad... anyway the bolt wouldn't go forward enough to close but guess I had enough on it that it stuck forward. In retrospect I should have just cased it and poured a little solvent into the breach area, but no I tapped on it with a plastic screwdriver handle, third tap was a charm, bolt popped back, shell fell out and bolt handle fell off... Then there was the slack jawed gawking at it for a moment.

ya gotta be kidding?..bolt handle fell off,..like, in your hand...unattached to the bolt body proper?..........first one I've heard of:D ...actually had a couple(?) 700 handles make the trip to points hither and yon on a couple occasions...and once I was convinced that the Remington bolt handle excursion curse had caught up with me after 20+ years of slamming bolts on 700's.....it happens....in a few hundred thousand furnace brazed, or silver solder jobs there will be one that doesn't acquire a good bond.....any 'smith worth his shingle will put it right back on...pronto.

Just to add. You can also drill a hole through them, tap it, and insert a screw, then weld it over. One or two of the custom tactical guys in the states do that. Remington has had this problem before, and just for the hell of it, a picture of a Remington 600 bolt I just took today (might be blurry, I was laughing pretty hard at the 'durability' of the connection between the bolt body and the handle :D

Ah, Dosing that makes me wish I had taken a pic of mine... yours looks like the attachment was pretty good compared to mine. The bolt handle didn't look like the silver solder was stuck to it well at all, but it all stayed on the bolt body...
