Repairing a Colt Thunderer

Hi Guys I have a nice little Colt Thunderer sherrifs model. The gun doesn't hold half #### or full #### and the timeing seems out of whack. Has anyone here any experience in repairing these guns. I think it's worthwhile as the bore is good and there is no pitting on the gun.
 
Sounds like one of the links in the cocking mech has gone TU.

I've read that the early DA Colt's are a bit delicate, internally.

Have you stripped it for a look? Could be something simple like a bent link or a pin come out of place, or it could be something obvious like a broken part.

Thanks Trev I've been a bit hesitant to take it apart but I think I will. You never learn untill you try right. All I've heard is they are delicate and finicky. I dont think I can screw it up anymore than it is.
 
Got a digital camera?

I usually keep a pencil and paper on hand to jot down a quick diagram of spring locations and orientations, but a camera is faster and clearer.

Not to say that someone couldn't have installed one or more of them wrong, anyways. Surprising (or not) how often THAT happens.

I take it that it was a bargain?

I got it fairly cheap Trev and I worked up the courage to take it apart and found out the notches on the hammer were worn down so that the sear wouldn't catch. I cut the notches and when building it back up I bust the damn cylinder stop spring. I found out from Dingus where to get the part so if nothing else I'm getting some experience. Thanks for the hints the camera helped a lot.
