I have a Remington 700 VS (factory HS Precision stock). There are a couple of spots where the surface has cracked and is "flaking" away - similar to a rust bubble on a car.

Google returns surprisingly little information about this specific issue. From what little I have been able to find, I believe it starts with removing all loose material, filling in with epoxy, sanding and repainting.

It's only cosmetic, so I'm inclined to let things be. Anyone have experience with this? Epoxy type? Texturing? Paint?

I would really rather not send the stock back to HS Precision.

Astoundingly similar to the Google results I got. :D

Seriously - anyone? Is it so obvious that I'm a dolt for asking?

Repaint I think is about the only thing you can do. Try googleing refinishing, repair is not something you can usually do to a fibreglass stock.

For those interested, here is the rather dry (but still appreciated) response directly from HS Precision:

Any epoxy resin compound will work.
