Replace black plastic forened tip.

A friend of mine has an old Springfield 30-06 rifle that is missing the black forend tip. I rememebr seeing lots of these many years ago on Bishop stocks, which is what this might be. The wood stock has a tenon on the forend that the plastic tip slides onto.

Anyone know where I can find one of these? If it were mine, I would just cut off the tenon and epoxy on an ebony or dark-stained piece of birch, maple, or ash, and shape it to fit, but he would like to find the correct plastic tip.

Anyone know where we might find one?

Trying to understand how or why it went missing so failing an explanation from the owner the question is: Where will you find another one when this one goes missing again?

If I had a friend wiling to replace a black plastic fore end tip with ebony or dark stained wood you would color me "Overjoyed".

My second suggestion would be to lie a little and suggest . . . from your extensive research . . . that they do not exist and more!
 
For info purposes. Ted, I went looking for a piece of ebony this week, and was told at the local lumberyard, that ebony and rosewood are on some endangered list, therefore very difficult to come by. Good luck.

Time to find a lumber yard specializing in exotics, around here that would be Windsor Plywood.

Lucky you, ours closed about 10 years ago. Small towns, one so often has to make do, and not rush.

I just got a call to give a friend a ride home. His 6 year old Cummins engine probably needs a knock sensor. Apparently these sensors are unavailable right now due to Covid etc. This is on a class 8 truck that has to go, not a rifle that can wait while exotic wood gets sourced.

Ted be careful, the Turd has not changed the laws of supply and demand!
 
I have a piece also, just about right size, had it for 40+ years, Just waiting , BTW Ebony is in Windsor, just take a gold card with you. same with Rosewood.
