Replacement barrel for HK Custom Sport

I seem to be running out of jacketed .45's for my HK Custom Sport. The price on jacketed bullets is quite high at the moment. I was thinking of buying a replacement barrel w/o polygonal rifling so I can shoot lead bullets.

Has anyone else gone this route and what barrel maker did you choose? I know that Jarvis makes one. There may be others. I am hoping to find one that is reasonably accurate. The present barrel shoots very well but like I said, jacketed is expensive to reload at the moment.

Any thoughts, suggestions appreciated.

Save your money and just shoot hard lead. Clean your gun regularly, and you will be fine. I shot over 10000 reloads out of my P9S years ago and up to 5000 in my Mark 23, no problem. From all the fear mongers my guns should of been history after the first lead bullet out of them:rolleyes: IMHO

HK does not specifically advise against shooting lead in the USP (although Glock does warn against doing so with their guns). You may want to contact HK and see what they to say on this matter.
 
I got a replacement barrel for my 9mm, took almost 1 year from the happy people who supply all things HK... it was probably sitting on the shelf the entire time...but you know how there are... Cost was $200ish, I cant recall exactly.

Well that is just confusing to me. You are correct, there was nothing in my HK manual about not using lead bullets but my Glock says absolutely no lead. They both have polygonal rifling. ("Are there degrees of polygonal rifling?", he asked jokingly.) I really like that gun and don't want to do anything to it that is going to mess it up. I guess you're right and I will just have to contact HK.

I am actually hoping you are right. I don't really want to buy a new barrel.

Because Glock has polygonal rifling and is such a common pistol, there's a popular assumption that polygonal rifling is the reason you can't shoot lead form a Glock. But there could be other aspects of Glock's design that are responsible for the warning against lead. One alternative explanation that I've heard is that due to their chamber geometry, Glocks are more prone to leading that most other pistols.

Rugerman, its your money, if you feel comfortable in a new barrel go for it. I think its a waste. To me its the barrel companys capitalizing on the gullible. BTW, any reloads regardless of the bullet makes a warranty void from all manufactures.
 
I've put 10+ thousands of rounds of .45 ACP through my HK USP and Tactical. I've never had a problem with barrel leading, though I did have to clean the chamber thoroughly every 500 or so.

This has been posted and debated many times before. Generally it seems that leading is more of a problem with .40's and 9mm.
