REPLACEMENT CZ 858 Receivers

The funny fact is trying to get a mill to make a nice cut through a weld verses a virgin piece of metal. It's easier to modify and convert a non-molested receiver than a welded one.
The government and RCMP are obtuse when it comes to firearms reality and facts.

They don't care about reality. A 80% AR lower is prohibited because it can be turned into an automatic, but a 100% is restricted because...

Mr Wolverine, thanks for providing us with options...

If my worst case scenario becomes true - the currently NR CZ-858s become prohibited after much fighting - my preference would be to go with your Option 2... That would be my personal "up yours" to the powers that be, I am "grandfathered" in the newly created prohibited class (whatever that means...) via the receiver and I get to use the rest of the parts into a new NR rifle. For me, it is a matter of principle and I would be willing to pay half the price of a new Kodiak rifle. You can count me in as a definite customer when the time comes, thanks!

Totally agreed. It is the principle for me too. If there is a new KD receiver, I prefer that option.

it,s a win win proposal, i'll ship mine in for a conversion, and keep the cz receiver and the get the grandfather clause, lol! ...thanks for thinking about us. this is why i shop with your store.

And if you don't chop it you end up with a part kit and a receiver you can sell or give to someone who wants to be granfathered in. Or get granfathered in yourself. You don't lose the part kit because if you don't chop the receiver.

Yup, just was answering in regard to the chopping it comments......

Why were the first receivers approved? The way I read C-71 those early guns are still unrestricted (if over 18.5)...

Which bit of C-71 did you read that caused that conclusion? I haven’t seen anyone point to anything conclusive one way or the other.

Writing's on the wall boys. Once 858 is prohib, all "variants" will shortly be as well. Just sayin.

They always do things incrementally, like slowly turning up the heat to boil the frog.

By the time they are done you will be fortunate to have a bolt action .22 left.

They don't give a rats ass about us.

People are simply in the way.

Slaves.

Sheep.

Pawns.

Your voice does not matter!

i would spend the money on a Kodiak if the quality is close to the CZ receiver, only bought the CZ 858 because it was non restricted, I would have got an AR-15 if i only wanted to shoot at the range.

The problem is that unfortunately odds are fairly high that any semi automatic rifle that has anything close to a full auto counterpart out there in the world is going to become a "variant" someday soon. They didn't set up that extra prohib class with no guns in it for fun in the legislation. Keep in mind Mark Holland has been working with Ralph from the early days and he is about the only liberal that actually has an understanding of firearms (somewhat) so he knew how to put this bill together in a way that would allow the most underhanded moves in the future while claiming the government isn't responsible for what happened. I was optimistic when i first heard the high level features of the legislation, then I actually read the entire thing and now I most definitely fear the worst.

My most sincere thanks to everyone at Wolverine for all of the hard work that they do to support the firearms community, I'm sure I can't even imagine how much work has been done by Wolverine over the years but I know it is a terrible amount that has truly made a difference. I participate in every initiative and ever call to action, keep fighting the good fight!

The question of the availability of more Kodiak Defence 858 receivers has been raised, currently we have none in stock. Right now we need Kodiak to concentrate on the WK180-C production so we are not planning to submit a PO any time soon. The Kodiak 858 receiver has a non restricted FRT and is not affected by Bill C 71 AT THIS TIME! The Kodiak receiver will accept all CZ 858 parts, the barrel is a press fit, correct head spacing has to be insured and the trigger parts do require fitting as a different retaining system is used, so this is not a DIY change out, at least not for most. All of this takes time which equals money. There is also a liability question if someone changes out their own parts as we have no control over the quality of the finished product. Ideally if we do this we would want customers to return their rifles to us for a rebuild. I have seen rifles that are simply not worth rebuilding, then we have our time processing, handling packaging and shipping. I think the final cost will be close to half the price of a new Kodiak rifle!

If we do a production run I do not think it will happen before next year. This leaves current CZ 858 owners a few options. Firstly you sell you CZ 858 now and purchase a new Kodiak Defence 858, prices start at $1,249.99 https://www.wolverinesupplies.com/Products/firearms/rifles#?sortValue=0&MANUFACTURER=KODIAK%20DEFENSE
Secondly if Bill C71 becomes law you can register your CZ 858 now and be Grandfathered in that class. You always have the option of rebuilding onto a Kodiak receiver at a later date and have both a Grandfathered registered CZ 858 receiver and a non restricted Kodiak 858 rifle.
The third option if you do not want to register your CZ 858 is to cut the receiver on a chop saw or similar so the receiver is destroyed before the registration deadline, currently I understand this is June 2019 for non restricted rifles. (That is rifle with a barrel over 18.5 inches) You then have the option of rebuilding onto a new receiver at a later date.

Right now do not panic, take your time to make an informed decision.

We need to see a lot more interest than the odd enquirer we are currently getting before we commit to placing a PO to Kodiak for more 858 receivers.

I'm interested in a receiver only. I have a 20tn press, a lathe & a milling machine at home. I'll send an email.

Cheers

Would we end up obtaining a 12.3 class for our 858, or a new bs class just for 858 owners ?

12.10 for the 858 I believe. There is a separate 12.11 or 12.13 or something for the Swiss arms rifles, and a 12.9 mystery class with no guns prescribed to it yet. This 12.9 class is scary, because they didn't put anything into it, but felt the need to make it anyways. Speculation is its for an AR reclassification at a later date, but nobody really knows...

You realize the specific rifles in question are prohib by virtue of the modified full auto receiver, not because the govt said so, right? The previous govt wrote an exemption (a poorly written one at that, considering they determined the 858 spartan model wasn't covered by it and thus prohib) and this government is reversing that, thus returning classification powers to the rcmp.

There is no reason to prohib the vz58 or Kodiak 858s, because they're not built on receivers that were once full auto.

May be or may be not. Rcmp opinion is just an opinion. Still has to go to court. Especially for Swiss. C71 does not prohibit anything. It sets granfathering rules in case something will get prohibited by regulations. Regulations need no vote by MPs. That's why they do not show you them. They are likely already drafted and have lots of "surprises"

And it is exactly that word "Variant" that gives us pretty good grounds for dispute, because as much as it is mentioned numerous times, it is not clearly defined for legal purposes and in court of law, definitions are a paramount.
