Last week I purchased my first red rifle, a used 858 Tactical-2 from Epps. I'm very pleased with the overall function and form of the gun, however the previous owner (I'm assuming why he sold it) seemed to neglect the barrel for when I bought it, it was filled with rust. I suspect this was from not cleaning it out after putting some corrosive ammo through it.
Anyway, for the time being it shoots fine. Doesn't appear to keyhole and there is quite a bit of rifling remaining in the barrel, however it is quite pitted the last 6 or so inches. So my question is, can I find a replacement barrel for my rifle? If so where, and how much?

Unless if you were warned about the rust before buying it, I say bring it back for a refund/exchange.

yeeeep !!! were you aware of the rust prior to the purchase?

if yes, and assuming you got a good deal then a few guys here had their barrel replace by dlask , they will chime in as to the cost .

No, I wasn't. I saw the listing on their website after I put some money down. I don't remember what the over all condition was, but it said "Bore: poor". It didn't have this in the description on the box at the store, nor was I informed by the salesman. Though there wouldn't really be anyway for him to know either since it wasn't on the box.
I paid $500 for it.

Your looking @ $350 not including shipping and government contributions. Or shoot the be-jebus out of it and call it a day.

CZ 858 expensive poor bor.......

Hi,this is a very expensive parts gun,CZ 858 7.62x39 with fixed stock available $695.99 new in the box,to change the poor bor should cost not more than $195 to make it worth,,,next time you see poor bor, stay away, unless you need parts, good luck

I don't know, I think there may be a market for better 'match grade' barrels and am kind of surprised nobody's come up to the plate to make them. I know they're pinned and pressed into the receiver so It's a job for a reputable gunsmith; but if they can mill up match grade .308 barrels for an AR or 700, I fail to see why they couldn't ream a barrel blank for the CZ also...conversely you could always get it cut down to get rid of the corroded part, and re-registered as restricted(?)

On a side note, you could always use the rifle to club whomever poured your foundation to death; or did they hide Jimmy Hoffa there after the house was already in place?

Viktor, you would think so, wouldn't you? Meh, I'll probably just continue to shoot it. Like I said it's not terrible to the point where there's no rifling left or anything.
Ahaha, I got a good laugh out of that. Our house is about 125 years old :p

After you shoot it a bit, check out the rifling, I'm sure Ive read here that people have neglected them, cleaned them and had no ill effects. Epp's is a pretty reputable place, if you think you've been wronged Wes will typically make things right if you dont go in and give him a hard time. Just remember the stress level around there can probably get pretty high and you get more with honey...as the saying goes.
I figured it was either a century home or one of those restored hi end condo's in Toronto, either way I'm glad you laughed and didn't take offense. :p

PS you can buy replacement 16 inch barrels but then it would be restricted.

I've just done a bit of berm blasting at 25yds so far, next time I have the cash for ammo I'll take it to a 100 and see if I can hit anything. Really it's not that big of a deal. I'm not going to raise a big stink there or anything lol.
Haha yeah, she's an old beaut.
Cutting down the barrel would make it prohibited...
Yep.

Yeah, that doesn't do me much good :p

Keep the Rifle

Get some Slip 2000 and clean the sh1t out of that rifle.
Then shoot the crap out of it. It may have been abused by the idiot before you but you can start taking care of it right now.

If it doesn't shoot (some barrels will shoot just fine while looking like sewer pipe) you could run a patch with some flitz metal polish on it down the bore, follow it up with some dry patches, and see how it turns out.
