So I'm gradually culling my supply of R-P brass lately. I developed my 30-06 loads using them and I have got a good many firings from them. I had a stash of 60 that came from an estate and were at least 30 years old. They came from a gentleman who quit loading in the late 80's.
I loaded up some new production Remington brass and am not pleased at all.
I'm looking for a replacement brand of good quality brass. Looking for one that is similar in capacity so I don't have to do an extensive load workup again.
Anyone have any ideas as to what brand to switch to?

It sounds to me like you are not going to be very happy unless you use the same brass of the same brand and vintage. That brass ain't around any more, unless they're sitting on it. I have several brands of '.06 brass that I could send you if you want to mess around with case capacities. After all this time with this (your) particular brass, personally I would welcome the chance to work up another load with some primo new stuff....just my $0.02

Ya I would never be able to find any of those anymore for sure.
I have tried new winchester and once fired federal and not happy with any American brand. They just don't seem consistant.
Weight is all over the map, neck tension not consistant.
I'm no bench rest shooter, but I like to make bullets as consistant as possible.
I'm hoping maybe a European company of some sort puts out some better brass

PPU is generating a large amount of positive feedback across their whole rifle line lately. I know .308 Winchester is in demand by a lot of my clients. I would you recommend having a look at them. Maybe talk to Jerry over at Mystic Precision.

First choice is Lapua. Second choice and very close to the quality of Lapua is PPU - if you can find it. It seems to be getting difficult to source in Canada but maybe I am looking in the wrong places.

Lapua sounds like it could be great for sure
Expensive but good

Considering how long your R-P brass has lasted for you I would definitely buy a box of Lapua brass. The cost is negligible considering it will probably last you a long time and it should be good for more loads before needing to be replaced.
When I read that you had 60 pieces I almost choked, I can't even imagine being able to survive with only 60 cases. I must have 2000 S&B cases for my 308's, plus hundreds of once fired sorted by headstamp into ziplock bags waiting for the day I finally get desperate enough to use them. All my 308 loads are with S&B brass, not because I think it's better, just because I have so much of it. I've still put together numerous sub MOA and some 1/2 MOA loads using it. I don't sort by weight and I don't check neck thickness or tension as I feel that is overkill for a casual shooter and I leave that for the guys chasing after 1/8 MOA improvements. I don't anneal either, when the brass is tired I throw it out and grab another 100 from the 1F bag. Clean, trim, load, shoot, repeat.
Changing brass should only lead you to minimal load development, especially if you have a chronograph or at least have access to one. Who knows, you may even stumble across a better load in the process.

I have hundreds of pieces of 30-06 brass. I only have 60 of the old r-p brass that I really like. I was starting load development with Hornady as well wich I probably have 150 or so pieces. I just happened to settle on these old tough R-P brass for my hunting loads.
Now I could start workup with them, sure.
I think I was more reaching for your guys opinion on what the best brass for the buck would be. And one also close to the same capacity as R-P.
I would love to have thousands of pieces of a certain headstamp brass. Then I would work up a load for that too. However I can't afford to buy much. Especially when people charge me 35 - 50 cents each plus shipping for brass.
It seems people don't like to share or give a deal even when they have thousands and thousands.
It seems people love to greedily hoard brass. I for one have given people thousands of pieces of brass on this site for the cost of shipping over the years.
That's just how I do things.

A good source of quality 30-06 brass is the browning headstamp brass that higginson was selling. Apparently it is norma brass. It's primed and dirty (old) as it was sourced from a recall. Great brass if you don't mind cleaning it up

Higginsons still lists this brass at $23.00/50 cases. I'd say that's a real bargain for Norma brass. They list this brass as new BTW, so even better.

It looks like you live in the Rocky Mountains and not in the flat central plains so I assume most of your shooting is in the woods and shorter ranges.

So buy what is easiest to find in your local area stores or do a bulk order. I live in the U.S. and buy bulk once fired Lake City 7.62 and 5.56 brass because its good brass and I'm cheap.

The average deer shot in Pennsylvania is at 40 yards and a long shot would be 150 yards. Meaning I would never buy Lapua brass because Remington, Winchester or military brass are good enough at these ranges.

When you are standing on your hind legs shooting at a running deer, with your adrenaline and heart pumping the brand of brass doesn't matter.

If you are shooting at longer ranges from some sort of rest then Lapua brass might make a difference.

.308/7.62 - Cleaned, Deprimed & Swaged - LC Only - 100 Pieces $20.00 free shipping = .20 cents ea (and I don't cry if I loose a case)

Lapua Reloading Brass 308 Winchester Box of 100 $75.59 plus $8.54 shipping = .84 cents ea (U.S. Dollars)

Signed
