As the title states I have been having alot of issues with the reliability of my rem 887 waterfoul shotgun looking for ideas for a suitible replacement that prefferably still has the 3 1/2 capability and interchangable barrels any thoughts??

I got the mossy 535 and have used it hard for 10 years not one hiccup .best utility shotgun for the money . Dutch

Ya I have used older 870 wingmasters and had no problem but it seems all the newer remington product I have handled hhas been problematic even are conservation officers are telling me their bolt actions are having issues. I was leaning towards the mossy 50flex have a 20guage in that style had no issues im pretty much done with remington products till I stop seeing this same problem across their products even though I love the look and feel of their guns the reliabilty they were famouse for seems to be gone now

I'd go for the 870 Express Super Mag...there are far more good ones than there are bad ones...and the bad ones only need 15 minutes of working on to become reliable again. The 887 was a failure from the get go...IMHO!

Let me just say this. My 17yr old son had a Remington 887 NitroMag 12g 28". We took it to the range and shot trap with the new gun. After shooting a box the gun wouldn't eject the spent shells. It took off the barrel nut and the entire 'guts' of the gun came out with the barrel. WTF? After an hour of reassembly, and putting the bolt back into the rail we got it working again. Son was happy again. Shot through another box and the same thing happened, with the bolt quite visibly off the rail. Sent it back to Remington Canada in Que and they said the gun was irreparable. They told to to expect a brand new 887. I said NO, send me the tried and true 870 please. They agreed and we later took it hunting. After about 3 shots the gun locked up and I was removing the barrel nut and barrel again. Quickly fixed it and hasn't happened since, knock on wood.

I've owned easily over 25 guns and have only sent three in for warranty work. Each was a Remington. (I also sold off a Remington built Marlin that was trash from day one...... So that makes 4 duds.

I will NEVER BUY A REMINGTON EVER AGAIN. Quality control was severely lacking in the ones I owned.

I have also owned two Berettas, two Benellis, and a Browning shotgun. All of them were of excellent quality. The Supernova is my 'drag thru the trees and mud' gun. I love it. Beretta O/U is my range gun.

Ya I agree on the quality control I think mine is in the irreperable category cant even cycle 3 rounds without it jamming up and I know I rebuilt it properly after I took it appart to clean and try find the problem

I've owned a Browning BPS, as well as my two Benelli Supernovas and I can tell you that either are excellent shotguns. The BPS is a bottom load and eject which is helpful in a duck blind, but not as easy for trap shooting. I'm a lefty and don't find the Benelli any more difficult than the Browning in this regard. I liked the BPS, but love the Benelli.

Also, the price difference between a pump and a semi is not a big deal for me, but I do like the maintenance-free aspect of the pump. Well, minimal-maintenance, I suppose I should say. I just pull a Bore-Snake through after use and that's about it.

Go mossberg 535 or go home the 870 quality these days is suspect to me. The mossberg is still made in the USA aftermarket parts are easy to get, lots available and competitively priced. It's been around for years and is a proven design....not that the 870 isn't I just feel that Remington has let it's QC slide. JMO! Watch this the 870 is gehy!!!!!!! Let's get the party started Remington lovers
All I need to say sup with the 870's safety position??

I figure this 887 has to go and most certainly not looking at the 870 as the replacement. Just saw some products from winchester any thoughts on the sxp

Winchester used to be a good mfg'er? Their auto loaders are good from what I hear but I believe they are all made offshore and parts and service can be an issue? Brownings to are mainly offshore generally Brownings quality is high but so is the price and I have heard some(not a lot mind you) horror stories about them. If you are looking for a Quaker/honker killer for a good price and that you won't feel bad about it rolling around in the bottom of a leaky duck boat. The mossy 535 would be my pick! I guarantee
You will cry when that shiny BPS comes up muddy and scratched.

The prices on the bps, m500, nova, sxp all seem to be quite similar or am I missing something when im looking at them and honestly the mud in my boat is probably not the worst abuse I will put my shotguns through lol
